Just looking at West Coast's Mitchell Brown's stats for the year, even though he is primarily a defender, he arguably has better stats than Travis Cloke this season.

He equals Cloke's 1 goal per game when and he's played less than 30 games in his career compared to 100+ of Clokes! Amazing!

Mitchell Brown has had less marks inside 50 than Cloke but has converted more goals making him more efficient inside 50 (straight shooter). What's more is he manages all these amazing stats quite comfortably all while being in a dud/rebuilding team that's sitting in the bottom 8!

Imagine if we had a similar player in Collingwood like Mitchell Brown that could go up on the forward line? I'm sure there's someone out there that fits the bill. I think it would be well worth a shot!

we have this kid called Nathan Brown who resembles Mitchell a tad.. :D

Mitch is a good prospect. Can play forward or back. We'd be lucky to have him on our list, would be a lock in our 22.

ooooooooooooooo.... i know a guy who has kicked about 5 goals and has averaged about 13 possessions a game and he's a livewire in the forward line and he's a lot of fun too...

his name is stephen milne... gee whiz golly gumdrops... I wish we had him in our forward line....

Trav gets the best defender, Mitch I'd say would get the no.3, possibly no.2 on the odd occasion.

Mitch is a good player and will become quite a good player but a bit early to be thinking of a swap for Travis.

Amazing! Its far easier to have a goal a game average when you have played far less games :thumbsu:

Marklar, read please. Might have to explain this one in bullet points to make it a little easier.

  • Both players have played the same amount of games this season.
  • Both players have now kicked 4 goals for this season (was 4 to Brown, 3 to Cloke before thread was created).
  • Cloke is far more experienced than Brown by around 70+ games
By applying a basic rule of logic - Cloke should be kicking far more than 1 goal per game at his stage of his career. Bay Pie has a very good point, howeve a bag of at least two goals would be nice?

:o

Let's get rid of Cloke. Sure he's been the best tall forward on the ground two weeks running, but that's not good enough.

Only tall forward option. Melbourne. Dawson.

Never said get rid of him either, I just really like Gary Lyon's suggestion!

You have definately explained yourself clearly this time...Im sure you can admit to the horrid way you have constructed that sentence in the OP :thumbsu:

Trav doesn't get the best defender, 2008 he did and struggled, 2009 he didn't and still struggled, when jack is in the side he gets it. Admittedly I haven't seen the hawks game but his season before hand hasn't been all that impressive, hopefully tonight was different, ill see tomorrow i guess.

Like I said I haven;t seen tonights game but against the saints it wouldn;t have been hard considering he was up against L.Brown and half a game from Roo . You would hope he was the best, he really wasnt that good anyway against them... if that is a good game then he has problems.

*I'm hoping he played a blinder tonight and proves me wrong but either way it takes more than performing when we win by 70 points to prove yourself.

Was at the game , Cloke was the most dominant big guy on the ground last night. His hands were vice like when it came to marking.

Not very hard to be the best big man when all you have to contend with is Roughead playing on Presti and for a crappy hawthorn who only had 33 inside 50's. And when you are playing on a second rate backman. Cloke has a great mark but the reality is he cannot kick to save his life he can run around getting as many marks as you like, but it doesn't change the fact that he is still averaging 1 goal a game thats not good enough for a KPF, in a top four side.

I never said Cloke's goal average was good enough , just gave feedback on his performance against the Hawks. Trav is a pure CHF IMO ,we need someone else to stand up at FF to fully utilise Clokey's value to our side.

I know, but how can you say that a CHF had a good game when he kicked 1 goal, while playing for a side which had 70 inside 50's. And on a crap backman.

Check Cloke's marks and inside 50 stats in the Hun in the morning, that will answer your question. By the way i've been critical of Trav for a long time myself but last night he played a great game IMO.

I agree with what you are saying to an extent, I think he played alright, and his marking was impresive, he showed something, but I just can't call a one goal performance from a CHF playing for a dominate side a good performance.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree:)

what peeves me about Cloke: time and again he marks high up the ground, swings onto his left and boots it to CHF.

Only problem is that he is the CHF and we have Medders or the like as our marking option.

Could be a tactic to beat the zone, but to me it bamboozles.

Haha. Not hard to be our best tall forward when he's our only tall forward is it?

Cloke had a decent game last night...But 1 goal still isn't enough for a key forward. Let the midfielders do the midfield work and keep him in scoring range. Cloke is a great mark, use that advantage and boot it to him instead of letting him boot it in and relying on Leon Davis to take a miricle mark.

1 goal 3 is not a good game. Sure Cloke is dominant around the ground and one of the best marks in the league, but someone who has played 100+ games on a team that dominated the Hawks - realistically his game could've been a lot better.

Until he plays a game where he kicks at least two or three consistent goals, that's when you can see he had a great game.

1 goal 3 is not good enough in a team that thrashed the opposition to the point it was beyond domination.

I'm not saying they should drop him, but something needs to be done because he will be exposed against better teams and top back-man and high pressure games which is not what we want. Would anyone have prefered Cloke to kick that goal against Adelaide last year?

We all know he has a massive problem - but is something ever done about it? As Llyod mentioned last night, he's had the same bad kicking action for years. It's terrible - you can see him mentally and physically freeze up.

Nathan Brown to CHF for a few weeks while Cloke moves to the CHB for a few weeks would be a bold but creative move. The reason for this, as Lyon suggested, is because at the moment, every time Cloke gets the ball in the forward zone, he's thinking about missing set shots and it is not healthy.

Moving him to the backline for a few weeks against weak opposition like North would be a great way to get some confidence back into him. When he takes a mark, he won't be thinking about missing a set shot or looking to pass it off straight away to avoid a shot - so it'll get him back to playing basic footy.

Also a chance to test out Brown because he doesn't exactly look comfortable in the back-line either. Getting back to my original point - Mitchell Brown seems to go well at CHF, why can't his brother?

Probably gonna get bagged big-time for this but does anyone else have any ideas? Or just let Cloke progressively get more and more shaky in front of goals every year until he slips below 50% accuracy. You cannot say he has improved his set shots, so what's happening at the moment is not working.

You have definately explained yourself clearly this time...Im sure you can admit to the horrid way you have constructed that sentence in the OP :thumbsu:

Yes, English was never my strong-point.

Isn't Fraser or L.Brown supposed to be the players up around the f50 taking the contest when Cloke pushes down the ground?

CTB, we do have a bloke that looks just like Mitch Brown. He is pretty much a dead set ringer for him. His name is Nathan, but he only plays in the twos.

Mitchell Brown is one of my favourite players outside of Collingwood, I love to watch him and he will no doubt be a force in years to come. Whether this rubs off onto his brother I am eager to see, but we haven't seen it yer. He just seems to have the credentials to be the next Goddard.

In saying this, he is uncomparible to Cloke. If you really want to compare a player who can play back and forward, who plays for a similar team and has similar opponents. Compare Cloke to Leigh Brown.
