Who would replace him do you reckon?

Hilfy is my suggestion.
It depends on whether we have a decent spinner.

Are we going to play four quicks, or take a punt on Beau Casson?

If there's four quicks, Johnson will probably be retained.

But if there are only three quicks, Noffke and Bollinger would be the next guys in.

If Johnson guts the West Indies in the Third Test, you'd expect him to survive. But another performance will put him under pressure.

Well, at least he has repaid the faith that I have shown him on this cricket forum. I was starting to get worried, TBH. A good effort (and possibly crucial, as well).

He bounced back impressively against the Windies to finish with four.

The wickets weren't exactly prized scalps, but he bowled well.

Good comeback after bowling so poorly in the morning.

No update since he picked up the wickets?

Well selective posting if ever I have seen it.
Is there such a thing as non-selective posting?

Everybody picks and chooses to some extent.

I was discussing the cricket in the match thread, but didn't get around to adding to this one:

I'm sorry - I will never again fail to post in the relevant threads when someone takes wickets.

Alternatively, someone else could have stimulated discussion when Johnson bounced back.

Or do you need me to spoon-feed you every development?

I read the match thread after I posted in here

I really don't care Gunnar, I just found it interesting that every morning I get to work and I check here, and what do you know you've bumped all 8 Johnson threads on here with "he's bowled rubbish" "he's taken 6 wickets at 38 in this series needs to do more" "Surely Noffke or Bollinger can do this" "He's making Clark and Lee do everything" and then he gets 4/40 and nothing.

About time he did something.

I still don't really rate him though, and I'm happy to argue that point, but as long as he continues to perform for us I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Wow - great observation.

What's your point?

If you don't care, then stop bleating.

I think the most important thing here is for people to realise that he has been labelled a "work as progress" and that he has only played 9 or so test matchs.
I don't have a problem with that.

I just think it's a really delicate decision-making process.

Do we just keep playing him indefinitely? What about the guys outside the side?

India is a few months off, but we're going to need an effective bowling attack in that series. It might make or break Johnson.

India is a huge series for us. Beat them there last time, want to do it again.

If Johnson bowls like shit in the 1st Test in Bangalore and we get beaten, or we can't shoot them out when they are batting for a draw, then I think he'll be jettisoned. At maximum, he won't survive two Tests of chucking down cream pies. He'll need to perform from the get go or he'll be dropped.
I don't think the selectors will tolerate crap bowling on the Indian tour. It's a massive series and we will want to show India we still run the show on-field.

I'll reserve my judgement until the end of this match, but if he doesn't get wickets in the 2nd innings here, I'll put my nuts over the fireplace and say he'll be out of the side by the 2nd Test in India.

Johnson spanked again in the second innings.

53 runs from his first 9 overs.

Sarwan and Marshall hit him out of the attack.

He's shown he can bounce back, but it must be a worry that he's so hot and cold.

Well, we're in India, and Johnson has direct competition from Bollinger and Siddle, whose inclusion in the squad was a bit of a surprise.

Is Johnson a walk-up start for the First Test?

How likely is he to be replaced mid-series?

We desperately need our third quick to bowl well this series.

I can see him picking up 3 tailenders and finishing with the flattering figures of 3-64, after being smashed for 50 or so off his first 8 overs.

He'll then be retained and the pattern will continue.

I think he would want to bowl well in the warm up game and Bollinger not to bowl well. Bollinger has been in India for a while now and has been taking wickets pretty consistently but he would only be outside chance I think.

If he doesn't bowl well in the first and (maybe second) Test I think he will be gone.

I think he's likely to get ditched, either for another paceman or a 2nd spinner, at some point in the series
Im thinking krezja may knock him out pretty quickly if we cant bowl india out in the second innings.

Depends on how watson goes i spose
