Can tell he's worked hard to stop falling over/being trapped in front, but at times it still looks likely. In any case, he still did very well today in stemming what could've been a nasty collapse.

Agree he definitely should've been bowled more after it became clear Bird was completely ineffective and Cummins was ill.

You have a brain? But you support Freo?

Hey man, some people are just masochistic like that.

After all, I support the Brisbane Lions despite them generally being irrelevant for almost 15 years.

Hopefully the last two tests are the makings of Mitch Marsh.

Great effort today. Long way to go but today’s innings would have given him confidence and the belief that he can play

The stats book will say otherwise but his contribution of 20-odd not out was probably almost as valuable to the end result of the Test as his 181 in Perth.

It is these kind of innings that could cement his spot in the side as it demonstrates that not only does he have the run-making ability, but also the tenacity to fight out a draw. A mostly chanceless innings where he valued his wicket very highly.

Now for him to chip in with a couple of wickets...

Exactly. Very valuable knock. Tail could have very easily been knocked over MMarsh had of gotten out cheaply. It was a docile pitch, but if it was easy Bancroft and Warner would have still be out there.

Still can't stand the flog, hopefully he's not around for too long.

I seriously doubt he would care what you think

Meanwhile he has made a massive contribution in saving a test match

He looks a completely different player with the bat than his first spell in test innings. His defense is a lot better and he's more confident in his abilities.

His bowling though...I mean he is coming back from a shoulder reco, so unfair to pin that on him but he needs more skills and variations in the test level (don't go crazy like Curren though)

I hope he has a long and decorated career for a winning Aussie side. Solely to spite you.

But seriously, don't know why you'd bother watching cricket in the first place if flogs distress you so much, since it's a sport full of them.

And since Mitch isn’t even one of them.

This innings was more of a surprise than the Perth ton, we have plenty of blokes who can score tons on faster tracks but most times in recent years we fold on a slow deck like this as we just can't put certain shots away.

Smith just needs middle order batsman to hang tough and let him do his thing so hats of to marsh was a great knock today.

I don't know the guy personally but it seems he'll never live down the label he earned in his younger days of being some loose party unit who gave no ****s.

If he was a dick in his earlier days, and tbh early 20's guys with talent (and money) to burn generally are, then it's fair to say he's matured a lot. Like most people do. Again, I don't know him at all so I can't really know for sure, but his performances so far have suggested a newfound level of maturity. He looks like he's finally ready to succeed at Test level and I can't wait for him to start proving a lot more people wrong, and if he's responsible for rising salt levels then all the better.
Went to school with him; genuinely nice bloke.

Should have bowled about twice as many overs in the England innings I feel, but he's still working into it since the shoulder probably.

Played the perfect innings to knock dead any chance of an England surge. At lunch there was some hope for the Poms if he'd gone cheap and the tail failed as they did in the first. Kudos to Mitch.
