Doesn't get a lot of game time at this early stage in his career, but has been very productive many times throughout the season when needed. Is a great tackler and has good skills by foot and hand. Looks a very promising player, lacks a bit of leg speed but battles very hard and gets to most contests.

A lot of the Box Hill followers have big wraps for Sammy. As hawkfan noted, he is a dour, in and under type player. He was very good at Box Hill last year (I think he might have come second in the B&F) after playing for the Eastern Ranges.

Did Bairdy win that? Someone told me he did, but I wasn't sure.

Mitchell looks good. He finds space well for a guy who aint that quick, and he is very composed.

Yeah Bairdy won it. The amazing thing was that Mitchell placed in both the Box Hill Reserves and Seniors B&F's. He came back from injury through the reserves and picked up a few B.O.G's.

That is just silly.

Surely he would have been toying with the reserves.

Where did Bairdy play in the seconds?

Bairdy always played at CHB. He often looked like he wasn't trying, but it's just the way he is. He's very relaxed (or at least he was at VFL level) but he still did a good job every week. The only bloke who gave him a touch up last year was Nathan Saunders from Werribee. Then in the Grand Final, John turned the tables and won the VFL equivalent to the Norm Smith medal.

Good footballer, I was sad to see him go.

He is a bit like that. We started to play him on the wing in the seniors, and spurts up forward. He uses the footy so bloody well, and never panicks.

He is in our best senior 22 ATM, it is just that Digby played CHF, and we didn't have much else in that possie. I was told that he was shattered when he wen't back to the rookie list, but has been told he is a cert for a list spot next year. I love Bairdy. He doesn't give a ****.

He should have been devastated to be sent back to the Rookie list as he had a great year for us. Probably had two or three less effective games prior to the decision between him and Diggers and that may have been another factor in why he was relegated.

I really rate him and he will be a very important player for us in years to come.

Why did you Hawks let him go? A serious question, not a **** take...

Have you got any others we can have this year? Not a serious question, a **** take!! ;)

sammy mitchell has the biggest heart, he give his all every week and if he would just be left on the ground then he can do his work because he really is a footballer

go sammy

I'm pretty sure he was a Box Hill listed player and we missed out on getting him through the draft. He might have been on the Hawthorn list earlier in his career but he didn't play excellent footy until he was at the Mustangs.

He was on Hawthorn's rookie list but didn't really do a lot (apart from a couple of goals in the end of season match in London).

We gambled on picking him up in the rookie draft and obviously Roos got in first. Good luck to him, deserves a shot in the AFL. We were going to pick him 48 at the National draft but took Simon Cox instead. At the time we were ropable but looks pretty good in hindsight!

Mitchell has the best clearances to possessions ratio of anyone at the club - his ability to read the ball at stoppages is his obvious strength.

Only his lack of leg speed stopped him getting drafted straight out of under 18's, but he was so good at Box Hill he couldn't be ignored any longer.

I'm someone who loves natural footballers, so Sammy is a favourite of mine. Always good to see someone work through the ranks like he has as well.

He is a solid little bugger isn't he.

It is good to see a bloke who is not 6'3 and runs like the wind make an impact.

Bairdy is a gun.

I'm a huge wrap for both Sammy and Bairdy.
I wish Bairdy well with the Roos, and he could possibly hold down CHB for the next 10 years.

As for Sammy, the guy may not be the running plater like Buckley, but he gets the ball, uses the ball, and then makes 2nd efforts for his team mates. Does little things.
He was in BHH reserves for the first few weeks last season, and was very noticably running around in a #58 jumper with blonde hair. Reminded my uncle of Peter Crimmins.
