Diamondbacks have released RHP Jandel Gustave. He had pitched in nine games for the Reno Aces in Triple A, and ended up with a 16.43 ERA before landing on the minor league injured list about a month ago.

Baltimore Orioles have signed OF Ben DeLuzio to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk Tides. DeLuzio was with the Cardinals in 2022, but was non-tendered at the end of the season and became a free agent. He signed a minor league free agency deal with the Cubs in the off-season, but didn't make the roster out of Spring Training and was released. He signed with the Dodgers but hit just .180/.286/.258 in Triple-A and was released last week. DeLuzio has 25 plate appearances at MLB level and in that small sample size, has hit .150/.292/.200.

After being designated for assignment last week, OF Miguel Andujar has been assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates and he has accepted his assignment. Andujar hit just .161/.212/.387 in 33 plate appearances since having his contract selected by the Buccos at the end of April. He had passed through waivers once already in January and there was no interest him from any other club when he was designated for assignment last week. Andujar has produced decent results with the bat at Triple A, hitting .284/.364/.500 before being called up by the Pirates in April.

Mets OF Tim Locastro has torn his ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb, and requires surgery, according to Mets manager Buck Showalter. Locastro signed with the Mets on a minor league deal in the off-season and was on the Mets' opening day roster. He played in 11 games with the Mets in the opening part of the season, but usually appeared as a pinch runner, with only 10 total plate appearances. He went on the IL in April with back spasms, before going out on a rehab assignment where it appears he ended up injuring his thumb.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have put RHP Dustin May on the 60-day injured list to open a spot on the 40-man roster for the Dodgers to promote pitching prospect Bobby Miller. RHP Tyler Cyr was placed on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder impingement, retroactive to 21 May, to open a spot on the active roster for Miler. May is now ineligible to return to the active roster until the middle of July at the earliest, and it is likely that he won't pick up a baseball for six weeks, after which he will be reevaluated and a plan for his return to active play determined.

Miller is one of the new generation of fireballers, averaging 100mph on his fastball, but like many of his ilk, struggles with command. He has an ERA of 5.65 in four starts at Triple-A.

The Miami Marlins have put RHP Johnny Cueto on the 60-day IL while the Marlins have selected the contract of OF Jonathan Davis. Fellow OF Peyton Burdick was optioned in a corresponding move. Davis was acquired by the Marlins from the Tigers in a trade yesterday and will immediately jump in to the MLB roster. After signing a minor league deal with the Tigers, Davis hit .258/.336/.516 in 141 Triple-A appearances before being traded, launching five home runs and stealing five bases.

Davis has appeared in parts of five MLB seasons, playing 171 total games and hitting .185/.291/.245. He is better known for his defence, rated at eight Outs Above Average.

Cueto only lasted one inning in his first start of the new season before exiting the game with right biceps tightness. He had been playing catch, but had yet to start a rehab assignment. He is now officially unavailable to return until 60 days from the initial IL placement, which was 4 April. That means that Cueto is not eligible to return to the major league roster until after 3 June but it seems likely that he will need to undergo a mini Spring Training session before he is ready to return to the major league.

Before going out and thrashing the Rays 20-1, the Blue Jays made a number of roster moves. They reinstated Adam Cimber from the IL and selected the contract of INF Ernie Clement. In corresponding moves, the Rays optioned RHP Thomas Hatch and INF Otto Lopez to Triple-A. To open a spot on the 40-man roster for Clement, the Blue Jays put RHP Mitch White on the 60-day IL.

The Boston Red Sox are moving veteran Corey Kluber from the starting rotation into the bullpen, according to manager Alex Cora on a radio appearance. They will go back to a five-person rotation consisting of Chris Sale, James Paxton, Garrett Whitlock, Tanner Houck and Brayan Bello for the time being. Kluber has not pitched in relief since 2013. Kluber signed a one year, $10 million deal with the Red Sox in the off-season, but in his first nine starts of the season, Kluber has been hit around, with an ERA of 6.26. The veteran has shown troubling signs on the mound, with the average fastball dipping to a career-low 88.6 mph, and he's achieving career worst marks in strikeout rate, walk rate and HR/9. He has only made it into the sixth inning twice in his nine starts, and he's lasting on average just 4 2/3 innings.

Kyle Hendricks will be reinstated from the IL with the Cubs pencilling him to start tomorrow's game against the Mets. It will be his first major league appearance in almost a year, having last pitched for the Cubs on 5 July 2022 before he was put on the IL with a shoulder strain.

After designating OF Adam Engel for assignment on the weekend, the Padres have released him. Engel signed a major league deal in the off-season for $1 million (just above the veteran minimum) but he suffered a hamstring strain during Spring Training and started the season on the IL. Since then, the Padres haven't really made much use of Engel, giving him just six plate appearances in five games before designating him for assignment. It appears that the Padres now prefer Jose Azocar as the fourth outfielder over Engel, with Soto, Tatis Jr and Trent Grisham the every day starters in the outfield.

Former Tampa Bay Ray Brett Phillips has been sent outright to Triple-A Salt Lake Bees by the Angels. He was designated for assignment on the weekend and clearly made it through waivers without any claims being made. Phillips turns 29 this week and was signed by the Angels to a one-year, $1.2 million deal. Phillips played in 20 games for the Angels so far this season, but has only had 16 plate appearances, as he has often served as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. In 16 plate appearances, Phillips is hitting .077/.250/.077, compared to a career of .187/.272/.343 in 916 plate appearances going back to 2017.

It's another injury setback for LHP Drew Pomeranz who underwent cleanup surgery on his elbow, according to Padres manager Bob Melvin. It is unknown how long Pomeranz will miss, but Melvin said that they do expect Pomeranz back later in the season. However, it is coming up to two years since Pomeranz last pitched in the majors, having not pitched since August 2021. Since then, he has suffered a torn flexor tendon in his throwing arm. He began a rehab assignment a year after having surgery to repair the tendon, but he was shut down due to continued soreness and missed the entire 2022 campaign. He suffered more inflammation in Spring Training and began the season on the IL. He began another rehab assignment in April but was then put on the 60 day IL after three appearances.

The New York Mets have announced that they have reinstated catcher Tomas Nido from the IL and designated catcher Gary Sanchez for assignment to create a roster spot. Sanchez was selected to the Mets roster last week, and had seven plate appearances in three games, striking out in three of them and hitting .167/.143/.167. Sanchez's market in the off-season was very cold, as he was unsigned until April, whereupon he signed a minor league deal with the Giants that included an opt-out by 1 May, which he eventually exercised after hitting .164/.319/.182 in Triple-A. His form at Triple-A for Syracuse was much better, hitting .308/.514/.500 in Syracuse before being called up to the Mets.

The San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners are in agreement on a trade sending catcher Jacob Nottingham to the Giants. What the Mariners will receive in exchange is not yet publicly known. Nottingham was not on the 40-man roster and there will not need to be a corresponding move made by the Giants. Nottingham was signed by the Mariners to a minor league deal in the off-season. He's played 17 games at Triple-A Tacoma, hitting .200/.294/.450. He has 53 games of MLB experience with the Brewers and Mariners between 2018-2021, hitting .184/.277/.421 in 130 plate appearances. Nottingham was with the Orioles on a minor league deal and hit .229/.333/.425 in Triple-A but was not called up to the majors as Adley Rutschman took control of the job behind the plate.

Former Atlanta Brave, Detroit Tiger and Los Angeles Angel Julio Teheran has signed a Major League deal with the Brewers and will start today's game against the Giants. Teheran was once one of baseball's top pitching prospects and had four successful years with the Braves that saw him post a 3.33 ERA across 795 2/3 innings. He was named an All-Star on two occasions and finished fifth in the 2013 NL Rookie of the Year voting. He remained a useful innings eater for the Braves from 2017-2019, but his fastball velocity and command began to worsen. He left the Braves to join the Angels in 2020, but only pitched 31 1/3 innings with a ERA of above 10. He pitched five innings for the Tigers in 2021, allowing one run, but has not pitched in the majors since then. He pitched in independent Atlantic League and in the Mexican League in 2022, before signing a minor league contract with the Padres during the offseason.

Teheran exercised his right to opt out of his deal with the Padres and it has immediately paid dividends, with Teheran signing a contract with a base salary of $1.5 million plus incentives of up to $1 million from the Brewers.
