MLB Season 23

The Astros might be battling the Twins in the ALDS, but that doesn't stop them from making changes in the front office. Houston has let assistant GM Bill Firkus and player development director Sara Goodrum go. Firkus was one of three people with the Assistant GM title in Houston, alongside Andrew Ball and Charles Cook. Firkus had been with the Astros for 10 years, working in research and development and sports medicine. Goodrum was hired by the Astros out of the Brewers' organisation during the 2021-2022 off-season and spent her time overseeing the Astros' farm system after working as a minor league hitting coordinator with the Brewers.

Fried at 91 pitches after 3 2/3 innings. If the Phillies score here, it makes it very difficult for the Phillies. Wonder why the Braves are not making a change here. He clearly doesn't have it.

Guess it worked out in the end with Harper grounding out.

The only good thing for the Braves is that the Phillies have left 10 base runners on the base paths so far. Could be a much worse score for them.

Having said that, I think that, before the series started, the Phillies would take a split in Atlanta before playing games 3 + 4 in Philadelphia. The crowd at Citizens Bank Park is going to be feral.

Probably favourite postseason ballpark. Absolutely electric.
Atlanta need to take game 3, can’t see them doing it from 2-1 down.

Swept the Brewers in Milwaukee and took both games on the road against the Dodgers. Diamondbacks are very hot right now, but they're using their rookie, Brandon Pfaadt, as the starting pitcher in game 3 at home at Chase Field in a couple of days' time. Rookies have been hit around in the post-season (Bobby Miller today, Grayson Rodriguez yesterday, Emmet Sheehan on Sunday). On the other hand, Lance Lynn is the scheduled starter for the Dodgers and he's given up bundles of homeruns so far this season, so the Diamondback hitters might be very happy to see Lynn on the mound.

Arizona have had great at bats. Consistent game plan and target the starters early.

Don’t think rookies or experienced pitchers matter. They’ve been rocked in the NL. Arizona can afford to back Pfaadt the way their batters have been. 15 runs in two games on the road.

What’s really horrid is Dave Roberts continuing his anxious managing. Just love pitcher rotations. He doesn’t back any pitcher consistently in postseason.

If Dodgers indeed lose this division series, surely Roberts is gone?

They've kept Roberts on after more egregious decisions than today. Arizona was just better when it counted.

FWIW he has 2 years on his contract and they're getting luxury tax and draft penalties

Listening to ESPN's radio coverage of the Astros @ Twins. Was going so swimmingly until Eduardo Perez opened his mouth. He just doesn't have a good voice for any form of commentary, let alone radio.
