What a waste of time printing this thread. I think the the Magpie era of sacking coaches mid or even less than 1/4 into the season is is long gone.

Do we have a bay 13 Thread Area on the Pies site ?

I have heard that exact rumour from the wife of a former great of the club. MM has been given till rd 4....and the person to take over is Gary Lyon.

Not sure why they would sack him after rd 4 and I agree with SingaporeSling when he/she says that the era where we would embarrase ourselves by sacking coaches mis-season are long gone....not while Eddie's there anyway.

Won’t happen. Should have happened in 2005 after the debacle against Freo. That was the last straw for me and nothing that has happened since has changed my opinion one bit. In fact it has been greatly strengthened. That’s me. I don’t run Collingwood. Eddie does and he won’t sack Malthouse. What would the first 4 games expose that isn’t obvious right now? MM has been there through 7 seasons. If Eddie wanted him out wouldn’t he have sacked him at the end of the last season?

Malthouse will coach Collingwood in 2008. I have little doubt about that. All I can hope is that he has very little say in list management and he gets some tactical assistance that he will listen to.

See, now we know it's crap.

Nobody, and I literally mean not one person involved in the process of firing and hiring a coach would fire Mick Malthouse after 4 rounds and replace him with Gary Lyon.

Especially when you've got Guy McKenna already at the club.

plausible, lets face it! we wont be playing for a premiership next year. a new coach could be beneficial. could be the reason why mick hasnt been in melbourne?!

Radio 5AA was chasing the rumour that Mick would resign tomorrow.(Friday). Tried Balmey for confirmation but got nothing there. Nothing could be confirmed but who knows? Don't shoot the mesenger...I am just passing on for Melbourne people what was said on the other Adelaide radio station.

If mick did go i don't think it would be the worst thing that happened to the club- i think it would be a step in a positive direction.

i would love someone like Gary O'Donnell, or John Longmire- someone with youthfulness and are the new thinkers of the game. Further, these guys come from coaches who are PR friendly (Matthews being a good media person, allowing fox footy inside his coaches box, and paul roos being the greatest manager of people in the competition).

i think eddies deal with gary lyon is finally gonna pay off for us.. i hope mick retires.. hes been a fairly good coach for us but has remained at the helm purely on reputation ( which i might add- collingwood is no where near the powerhouse west coast once was). Bring in GL for some new innovative game plans and ideas for the boys... or try and get lethal back....

Just so we're all aware, Mick is currently in Russia looking at the workings of one of their premier soccer clubs.

Would be real smart of us to bankrole such a learning experience if we're going to sack him!
