I am interest to find out what others think?

Every second tv advertisement I see nowadays, seems to make men out to be complete dumb arses, cue foxtel ads or yellow pages ad, plus many more

Now if females were portrayed as being complete dumb arses, world war 3 would break out....

As far as I am aware the modern males 'life task list' has far more depth than the 'female life task list' yet we are treated like lepers...

For instance we now cook, clean, run the kids around (like the women used to do in the old days) plus we work, organise car & house maintenance, organise finances/insurance, mentor our children, provide emotional stability, take out the bins, used and abused for sex etc etc

So by my calculation we are far from being dumb arses, so how it is we are lambasted every where we turn?

I reckon we are being robbed of our identities and the modern man is the most versatile species on the planet.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I have a few thoughts on that:

- Men just don't care, and will never kick up a fuss over such things. Women do care*, and are more likely to get offended and choose not to buy the brand/product/service.
- Womens groups (not necessarily individual women) complain about ads that portray women negatively. Its risky for advertisers to insult women, unless their market is men (see beer commercials).
- Women tend to do the shopping, so the ads have to appeal to them.

*Older women at least do, women who went through the whole gender inequality of the past. I find young women not only don't give a shit about gender equality issues, they often play along with sexist jokes and are more than able to laugh at stereotypes and jokes.

Good point, so we are far more rational then :thumbsu:

Yep agree, again though if we take the 'Cougar Bourbon' advertisements the girls are not portrayed as dumb, just 'hell sexy' leaving the men looking like 'dip shits' again

- Women tend to do the shopping, so the ads have to appeal to them.

Does that mean that their emotions effect what they buy? for instance if they are offended by an advertisement, when they see that product on the shelf they wouldn't buy it?

all good points mate, thanks :thumbsu:

We were once portrayed as the 'rocks' of society, now we are portrayed as 'wuss burgers' IMO....do the metrosexuals have some explaining to do?

I think you've taken what I said out of context.

Point 1: Men aren't more rational than women (well, we are. But not in this context). Men have never had to endure discrimination based solely on their gender, so aren't likely to get insulted when they're portrayed as inferior. Read my footnote in my previous post. Younger women, who haven't experienced sexism, tend to not be the slightest bit defensive about the topic either.

Point 2: Its all about appealing to a market. The cougar ads worked well because it created a catch phrase ("5 cougars thanks")that guys could have a good laugh at. That ad objectified women, and if anyone should be annoyed at it its female bartenders who probably deal with enough rude & horny drunks as it is.

Point 3: Both sexes have emotions, so its natural to assume emotions influence buying habits. Whether its Ford vs Holden, patriotism influencing you to buy Australian Made, buying football boots because your favourite player wears them, etc. Women do the grocery shopping in most relationships, so why not appeal to them more so than to men?

Metrosexuals are great. I love em. Made women realise why men shouldn't act like women, and made men wake up that acting like a yobo isn't the right way. Kudos to Benny C and his kind :D

Like I always say, a womans work is never done. I do it.

Same goes for White vs Black. It's fine to make a white joke but not a black joke. We don't care if we're made fun of. Everyone who isn't a white male seems to have an inferiority complex or something.

The white male christian is the most oppressed majority in the world...
