The term most often applied to mis-heard song lyrics.

One of the most quoted examples is Excuse me while I kiss this guy from Hendrix's Purple Haze (Excuse me while I kiss the sky).

The references to Queen lyrics prompted this thread, for as a young un I used to think the lyric Scaramouche, Scaramouche can you do the fandango was Got a moosh, got a moosh etc. Whatever I thought that meant ... ?

Anyway do you have any favourites of your own?

Anything James Reyne? :D Hammerhead ... thought it was 'you been hanging with 97 people' ... was 'You've been hanging with the nicest people'

Manfred Mann's Blinded by the light ... thought it was 'wrapped up like a douche' ... was 'revved up like a deuce'

Fall Out Boy - "This aint a scene, it's a god damn horse race" instead of "god damn arms race".

Black Caviar thread instead? ;-)

ELO's song Dont Bring Me Down, most people including myself think he says "Bruce" but it is actually "grosss", i lost a bet because of this

Theres a website dedicated to exactly this.

kissthisguy.com

Yeah but the trouble with those sites is in the end people try to outdo each other with the extremity of their misunderstandings and it gets just ridiculous.

It's like those iPhone predictive text emails that go around. They were funny to begin with but now it's about at the standard of

I ****ed your aunt up the **** last night!
What???!!!
Sorry, I meant to type I had to catch the bus this morning. Stupid predictive text. Grrrr.

It's just a little unbelievable. Until FishingRick posts something like that I'm not buying. :p

I used to sing along to Mott the Hoople's All the young dudes line of "carry the load" as "Harry the loo". It was the accents.

Mrs Tribey says "Bruce" to this day but her ex is named Bruce and we tend to listen to KA-FM in bed, so.

Theres a popular Dido song that used to get a lot of airtime and is on adverts etc. not sure what its called but it has the lyrics:

"I will not go down with this ship, I will put my hands up and surrender". Cos I only ever used to hear it at work with plenty of background noise I thought it was:

"I will not go down with this shit, I'd rather poke my eyes out than surrender".
