I saw Cam Mooney have a couple of shots at goal from right in front of us last Saturday and it's no surprise that he's spraying them all over the place. His ball drop is terrible at the moment. His guiding hand is leaving the ball a long way from his boot. Has anyone else noticed this? Has his technique in this area always been deficient or is it something that's crept in recently? If it's something that I've picked up then I would have thought it would have been noticed by the coaching staff long before me and they would have tried to do something about it. I mean it's been pretty obvious for a few weeks now that he's having trouble with his accuracy at goal.

He appears to be trying to kick it too hard as well.

Give him time, just seems like he has a bit of a hangover.

As people have said in other threads, maybe the thing he had going with Stokesy in the last quarter will kickstart him. First time I can remember seeing him delighted all year - I'm probably wrong in that, I know. But yeah, the Moondog looked happy.

Might be good for the bloke.

I have a feeling he will have an absolute cracker this week.

If I had money I would be willing to put it on it...

He took a few marks last week and laid off some good bumps and made some great tackles. If he keeps chasing and tackling and making leads and tacking grabs it will all come back...

GOON GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON

Oh, my apologies.

I agree, if he can keep the effort up, the goals will come.

He's only statistically laid two tackles in total for the 5 games played. One came last week when he got Roberts-Thomson but missed the subsequent kick on goal. It's not just he goal kicking that is the problem but that fact that he is a little out of form. Kicking true will probably bring it round but there are other little things like too much arguing with the umpire(especially when play continues), too much body on body work(he's getting beaten there from the last two matches I have seen, Ryder and Richards) and perhaps a little too much aggression(he seems to be back to 2006 aggression rather than the controlled aggression of 2007). Anyone else think it could have been very messy if McVeigh hadn't gone to ground in the 3rd quarter on the wing?

He's also done some great things like the chase with Goodes in the final quarter was fantastic and the tackle on LRT in our forward 50. I just think he's not on top of his game at the moment but hopefully that will change too. SJ started the season a little slowly and in the last two weeks seemed to suggest he's found a bit more form.

He hasn't looked himself all season (and I have noticed a few little brain fades here and there).

Outwardly, at least to me, his mind doesn't seem to be on the job.

I have faith he'll return to the Cam we all know and love soon enough though :thumbsu:

In the meantime, he has plenty of credit with me.

Once he gets a bag he'll start rolling again.

Who really knows what's going in that brain of his. The problem, as I see it, is a bit of a lack of confidence and a failure to convert. His marking and endeavour has been good - in fact I reckon his marking has been pretty bloody good, save for the Essendon game where Ryder had his measure. If he could just bloody kick straight, would we be asking the same questions? He should have had 4 or 5 on the weekend, and probably the same against St Kilda.

Once he steers a few straight through the big sticks, I think we'll see him come back strongly.

He just needs a bag to get some form going. He has kicked some beauty's though. IIRC against the Saints he kicked a couple from 50m out on a fair angle. Of course, he's also missed some dolly's.

One other that I'm more worried about is Chappy's form from set shots. He can kick the snap still beautifully, but his set shots have been shocking, worse than Mooney's imo.
He doesn't seem to be able to kick 45+ from a set shot at the moment. Anyone else noticed that?

Hell yeah. He was only playing in the Swans match because the footy club appealed a tribunal decision - they might have thrown the book at him if McVeigh got cleaned up.

You were kinda lucky there, Moondog!

His big problem is he's trying to kick the leather off the pill and maybe also that he's jumping off the ground in his follow through instead of having his left foot anchored on the turf. I'm no coach but I reckon that might have something to do with it.

Other than this, he needs to concentrate more on his second and third efforts if he's beaten in a contest instead of looking around for the cream puff to get a free kick.

Moons IMO is a confidence player. If he slots one or two early, he tends to kick well for the rest of the day. Miss a few early, and he struggles, then tries too hard to rectify it, hence him trying to kick the cover off it.

He is still doing the little things well that helps bring others into the play, and I'm sure his touch will resume pretty soon. Probably this week, since I dropped him from my dreamteam, so he'll have a blinder tonight. :p
