I'm neither smoking anything nor sorry that I can't help your comprehension skills. To recap:the date of Morabito's return to AFL is far less important than the fact that he then goes on to have a long and hopefully decorated career.
Hardly even a slightly contentious statement I would have thought.
I'd say one would begat the other wouldn't you?

There's not really a lot to be scared of from a club's point of view, obviously you wouldn't offer him a 5-year contract. There's nothing stopping any club from offering him contracts on a season-by-season basis AFAIK. If Freo doesn't play him I am sure West Coast would happily take him.
Please don't even joke about that :(

I think the view should be taken now, that if morabito even plays one game, it is an incredible effort. Anything for him from here is a bonus

If he doesn't get a game, it will be because of form and fit into the structure. Gifting him games is 100% against everything that Lyon has brought to this club since his arrival. Those days of players no earning games left when Harvey did

Has anyone been suggesting gifting him games? I hadn't seen that. But I could see Morabitto selected not having hit best form but based on him having demonstrated that he is over the injury. Some people step up at the higher level. I think the Sub is a really good tool for taking a look at a player in that situation.

That would pretty much go against some very well established team rules and club values.

The guy hasn't had a game in 3 years and isn't an ex-Brownlow medallist. He'll get a game if his form warrants it.

Is that a response to my post? I am not suggesting that he comes straight back in, but Sheridan came in with limited form last season as did Silvagni and Pavlich. I am sure that they have a plan for him, and am looking forward to seeing it unfold.

Yep, it was.

Pavlich comes straight back in because he is...well...Pav.

From memory, (happy to be corrected), Sherro and Silvagni came in because of injury to others.

Our mids look pretty healthy at present, touch wood, so unless he gets a run as a replacement for Gumbleton, then he has a while to wait.

**I understand what you are getting at Gav. ;)

I wonder if when Gumby went down there was a little voice inside of Morabito screaming "pick me, pick me". It will have been such an emotional roller coaster for him - I bet he is hanging out to play more than we are hanging out to watch him.

Interestingly, Pav said that Mora would be playing this week.

Fingers crossed for him. Hope he gets out and smashes it. :)

When did Pav say that? If true, that would tempt me to spend 5 hours in the car.

Fact is we are basing everything on the person he was many years ago. You can't jump in the same river twice.

His body may have developed but there are mental and physical scars too. I would think it best to judge him as a completely new person. No expectations though no ceilings. A lot has changed in football and particularly in this club.

I hope Ross Lyon gives him a specific role, criteria to meet and be judged on that alone. I would hope supporters will also support him in fulfilling this role. If he makes the team stronger then that is applaudible.

If he plays, I don't care how well he does in the first game. No injuries please, and a big smile on his face at the end. Not too much to ask.

good luck to the kid.

Although had my fair share of run-ins with a few Freo supporters on here, do wish him the very best and been following this thread for a while now.
I know how nerve-wrecking it will be watching him go through his paces. Pretty talented kid and like Geelong's own Menzel, be pretty bloody sad to see that much natural talent go to waste because of some hereditary issue with the knees (or freakish bad luck).

3½ years since he last played, quite mind boggling when you think about it, 2½ years now since we last saw Dan.

Especially when you look at Veterans who have played 300+ games and barely missed a beat. Why couldn't he have Dustin Fletcher's knees?

Most of us were there the last time he played for us, we had different team logos and jumpers back then. :(

yeh, have read some of the stuff online as I'm you have as well...the so called 'unknown' ligament doctors have found in the human knee to the standard rehabilitation time in which some doctors now believe should be almost 2 years full rehabilitation before the knee is 100% cherry ripe for sports which demand as much from the body as what our game does.

Seems to be a lot of sporting stars returning from an ACL and then re-injuring it again at some point later on down the track. Bizarre when it's the opposite leg that buckles though.
I pray Vardy does not become another Menzel case but I dunno, for me, ACL is a word I really do dread but I just can't believe how many we see today in comparison to 15-20 years ago.

Considering there were times when we activated the sub very late into the last quarter meaning they only ended up with ~10 mins game time I could definitely see him being used as the sub as early as round 5-6. For all of its faults it's a pretty useful tool for easing players back into the tempo of senior footy.

Yes exactly. Just would not want it to end up being subbed in 5 minutes into a game due to injury, or subbed in late to help us win the game, which puts a heap of pressure.
