CARLTON will expand its Irish experiment by adding another talented overseas youngster to their list next season.
Eighteen-year-old schoolboy Ciaran Sheehan from Cork will move to Australia and become an international rookie with the Blues once his school year finishes in June.
The Blues have already lodged papers with the AFL.
Sheehan is a product of the same AFL camps that have unearthed Colm Begley, Martin Clarke, Setanta O'hAilpin and Michael Quinn.
Gerard Sholly, who runs the camps for the Blues, confirmed the news this week.
"We've been following Ciaran since he was 15," Sholly said.
"We've followed him closely and maintained contact with him, and he's already been over to Australia, because he has family in Perth.
"Carlton has now lodged the papers with the AFL. He will come over here in July, I believe, to do some training with them and then head back to Ireland before coming back."
Sheehan will be the third Irishman to find his way to Carlton, following OhAilpin brothers Setanta and Aisake.
Setanta is still on the Blues list. He was recalled this week following suspension for a nasty clash with teammate Cameron Cloke during a pre-season practice match.
But after two seasons at Carlton, Aisake returned home when he was delisted at the end of last season.
Sholly described Sheehan as an outstanding athlete who would play in the midfield with the Blues.
Awesome, midfield to die for.
I believe this is the lad
