A county by county breakdown of the US Election

2004countymap3.gif

Even states in the West/East coast predominantly red - just the large inner cities that won those states for Kerry

By area - true. But I'm sure those counties are not equal population.

Bingo. That's the main problem. Notice how the major urban centres are blue.

The other detail those sort of maps miss is the margin in each of those counties.

It's weird isn't it. Even when the Democrats won a county inland it was almost always gathered around a major river.Whats with Demos and water I wonder.

I forget which one it is, but you will find that on the whole planet there is only 1 significant industrial city not based on a river or the coast.

good point. What is it with Demo's and big cities! ;)

Big cities make you realise that there is more to life than a selfish consideration of self, and the farm.

By that map.the people of Dade county[Florida]voted for neither Bush or Kerry.

Big cities are where you find the heaviest concentration of people, which makes you more likely to realise people suck, and so rather than waste your time with them, preserving and protecting vegetation and animals holds more appeal, thus voting left. ;)

It is a tricky one. It's actually L L O S I S but with the low case it's hard to know if their "i's" or "l's".

I think the grey areas are places where the size of the counties are so small they aren't showing up on this map. For instance, Illinois shows up mostly red, but the grey area coincides with Chicago - and given Illinois was staunch Democrat, that makes sense

[Edit - there are probably also counties too close to call]

Bush won in all the places you wouldn't want to live.

That's one summation I've seen someone make of it anyway.

Ever been to Miami? Great joint.

just goes to show, the higher the education level on average, the more likely to vote for kerry.

therefore the USA has more dumb people than smart people.

the dummies and inbreeds carried the day!

I read somewhere that any town within 20 miles of a college voted Kerry.
That figures.

And what about New York? Absolutely smashed Bush; it voted something like 61/39 in favour of Kerry.

Amazing. The one place that truly experienced the full horror of 9/11 telling Bush exactly what they thought of his war on terror.
