Bombers for me, they played finals last year and they look like utter trash this year.

WC the signs were there last year so it isn't surprising.

Doggies will come good.

Port were due a let down.

GC and North are no good and were no good last year.

GWS it seems every year they have a period where it looks like the coach will be sacked then they flick a switch and make a charge to the 8 and show us how good they can be.

I haven't seen much of North Melbourne to be fair but I thought naturally they would progress up the ladder a bit more, just scraping by the WC COVID line up as their only win must be concerning somewhat. I like their young list a lot, Larkey, Zurhaar JHF, Thomas & LDU, probably a bit weak down back and have had a few injuries to deal with but thought they would win 6-8 games and not cop as many hammerings.

Essendon I didn't rate that highly to be honest but they've put in a few insipid efforts and I still thought they'd be 7-12th on the ladder.

WC is an interesting one, if you look at the 2nd half of last season it makes a little more sense but I think we all assumed they would take one more swing at it with the group they had but it has been a fresh air swing. The effort level is unacceptable even with the covid/injury issues they've had, it looks like guys are chasing half hearted week after week.

Port will cause some damage from here, they can play with freedom without risk and that makes them dangerous, I am not sure they can make the finals but will shape them.

I'm obviously personally more disappointed in my side, but of the others:
  • Port I expected to fall into the bottom part of the eight. Two weird but close losses vs crows and blues, they've already played the dees and also lions away so that's the two toughest opponents right now. They'll get some players back and might push up into the 7-10 range by the end, if they beat my mob this Friday I'd actually be fairly confident they'll still make the eight.
  • Essendon beat up on bad teams last year, and beat the dogs when they were in a form slump at the back end of the home and away. They've got some good, young players but need a change of game plan and approach from senior players by the look of it. Probably be OK long-term given their list looks capable.
  • WC have fallen off a cliff and are uncompetitive - that's very disappointing. Some extenuating circumstances but still nowhere near enough to justify what's been happening.

But I'd have to agree with other posters flagging GWS. As a dogs fan I'm comfortable seeing them closer to the bottom than the top of the ladder (I'm sure most of them reciprocate), but the top end of their list should still be very strong so I can't understand it. Kelly, Whitfield, Taranto, Green, Coniglio, Haynes and a few others should be the core of a top half side - but it seems like they need Greene to be their barometer, as without him the first 5 weeks they looked poor. They might get to maybe 12 wins and sneak into finals, but should be challenging higher than that imo. They've probably got 2-3 years left with this version of the team, not much leeway now.

Eagles.
I looked at team on paper with Shuey, Hurn, Mc, Kennedy, Darling, Tim Kelly, Liam Ryan etc etc all playing and they have the comfort at home and they get beaten by over 100 points. Like WTF?

Fair enough when they had more out but no excuse when you have this many of your better types back and have such a home ground advantage.
Should nail 9 wins every season mainly based on home ground advantage and here they are down there with likes of North and Bombers.
They should be better than this, 7 rounds in.

I predict the Dogs to improve in the 2nd half of the season and finish top 6.

But I doubt many would have predicted West Coast to fall away so badly.
Have you seen the Dogs fixture after the bue? They'd want to bank their wins in the next few weeks cos it doesn't get easier for them.

Essendon - Malthouse picks them to win the flag and they are the worst team in it apart from North and Eagles.
Geelong _ They've been told for years that this day will come and they chose to ignore it. Tough times ahead.
Giants - Mid-table 2nd cousins to the Swans
Port - Disappointing from a team that really has no identity and hate their AFL selves.
Dogs - Could still make a comeback, but appear to have fallen away from the top 3.

Bit harsh on your own mob, as they haven’t been that bad this year, and they have gone alright for the last decade and a bit.

Why anyone listens to MM post coaching baffles me, people need to put him on mute.
