That's a terrible decision. Its clearly an accident and North should have absolutely challenged that

AFL doesnt care about accidental contact. Thats why they have the "Careless" rating. The only question they ask is "Could he have readily avoided it" and the answer is 'Yes'.

Im pretty sure had they gone to the Tribunal he would have copped 2 weeks. Even though a $1,000 fine and a 'be more careful next time' would have been appropriate.
 
While I understand thats the AFL's interpretation I really dislike it. It bases too much much on the outcome and not the intent of the action

I guess they dont want a game where players carelessly or recklessly smash in to other players and expect them to have even the smallest duty of care over what they choose to do on the field.

Except he hasnt been that careless/reckless here. He kept his feet like they wanted him to and went to stop at the ball to collect it. Its just an accident that Duryea lurched towards him at the same time. Its a contact sport and accidents happen, like this one here
