After yesterdays match it is easy to see Ratts and co are trying to develop a multi-pronged attack simialr to that of the Dogs or the Cats.
I for one am exceptionally happy about that. It was mentioned on a show this morning, cannot remeber which one, that it is so important for the front 5 or 6 to play together week in week out. So how do you see our forward line lining up fully fit for the rest of this year and into next year.

2008:
Betts Fevola Cloke/ Kruezer
Wiggins Fisher Gibbs/murphy

2009: NEW PLAYER/Cloke Fevola Fisher
Betts Cloke/New CHF Hoops or wiggins.

I think we still need another big target CHF. Maybe Hansen or Hurley from the draft but if we cant get a CHF maybe just another target. I really hope we can snare Mckinley.

What do you guys think
 
Multi-pronged attack? Yes please!

As defense was last year, i think a more effective forward structure to take advantage of our strong midfield rotation should be priority number one. Would love to Gibbs playing more mid/forward as the kid has natural class in his finish. :thumbsu:
 
A lot of people have forgotten about Ryan Houlihan. I think he'd be good for 30 goals plus given a full year as a permanent forward. Enough of this trying to make him a mid-fielder and a defender. Stop trying to put square pegs in round holes.
 
Could Fisher's game yesterday have anything to do with the inclusion of Edwards? For the majority of the season, it's been Fev and Fisher as the talls up forward (and Wiggins, if you consider him a tall). However, Edwards in took a bit of the pressure of him and provided another tall option, similar to him playing as the third tall last year with Waite playing up forward.

Ok I see everyones point, and why people say trade for Mckinley ect.

But:

- We have Houlihan/Hartlett who could fit into the forwardline nicely.

- We have Fisher/Betts/Cloke/Hartlett ect. ect. Down there at various times who can all be good targets, so what makes anyone think chucking another target will make any difference.

Perhaps we need another forward, however first what we need is to teach our players to start looking for other targets. No use trading for a forward if our game plan is still to pass it to Fev under any circumstance 9 times out of ten.

Couldn't have said it better myself. His days as a defender are well and truly over, and he should be played almost permanently on a HFF. Is good overhead, and we all know what his foot skills are like.

Sorry HBF but I think his days as a player are over. I think we just have too much emerging talent and Ryan does not offer enough to push them out of a spot.
I do think Fish needs to get on his bike a bit more and make a second leading option. He stays back and tries to use those long arms to take marks amongst bodies when he has the speed and hands to be the second option when Fev makes a burst. With another big guy be it Kreuz, Cloke or Waite filling in the gap behind we should be easily able to conjour up goals and have plenty of runners flying in to crumb the ball and set up from spillages. Fev demands the ball but it is up to the players and coaches to get everyone else around him doing the simple things. We have kicked too many great goals from deep in the pocket instead of easy kicks from marks 20m out dead in front. With the emerging midfield they should also provide more goals, plus blokes like Grigg and Army love breaking out from the backline and slotting one through.
Win the ball, play direct football moving more through the corridor, link up better with running players and deliver the ball better to players on the move inside the 50. Simple really.
 
There was an interesting stat in amongst the usual 5 pages of not-interesting stuff re: Fisher at the weekend, and that was that the Blues went to him 8 times as the forward target vs Richmond, only 3 times vs Essendon.

We all know we're way too Fev-centric, and that was something that proved the difference between the loss to Essendon (Fev kicking 8) and the win over Richmond (Fev kicking 4).

The stat was (I think), Forward Targets:

vs Essendon: Fev 20, Fisher 3
vs Richmond: Fev 15, Fisher 8

Now Fev is our best forward. It's perfectly OK to go to him more than anyone else. But in news just to hand, it's become clear to Carlton, apparently, that Fev is not Johnno Brown. He's not about to start taking hangers or pack parks with 3 guys hanging off him. He's a lead-out forward, and clearly the best in the business at it. By going to Fisher more, it means the Richmond defenders can't drop two back on Fev all the time, because we're more unpredictable.

We need another target down there. Wiggins (I can't believe I'm saying this) looked OK as a lead-up defensive HFF, but we really need Hartlett or Edwards to make the gig their own. In 2-3 years, if we're making serious finals runs, we will have solved this problem. If we haven't, we won't be.

Watching the game on the weekend early on we had free players inside 50 a number of times and our players still tried to pinpoint Fev with 2 and 3 on him, that is not Fevs fault, i distinctly remember Bentick on 3 occassions done this and on at least 2 of these occassions was panicked into playing on (once on his non preferred side) and butchered it each time trying to hit Fev when others on the fat side were free or would of been the better place to go. The move of sending Kreuzer and Cloke deep did help this in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Also the tactic of playing through Wiggins (Bowdens man) was smart.

Coaches made the necesarry adjustments with tactics/moves but ultimately more ownership of these problems need to be addressed by the players delivering the ball and getting there decision making process right.

LMFAO are you serious...:confused:...? Kosi is an absolute deabeat.
To me Bret Thornton is an UNTOUCHABLE. To many people underestimate the amount of work and creativity T-Bird does in our backline. Certainly a NO NO from me :thumbsd:
 
kosi would be more valuable to the blues than thornton
you have the players to cover for him now some young kids coming through and the experienced backmen you already have
you need another target up forward and with your kids coming through the ruck too he wont need to play there
hell be very good for you guys
i think the saints need a solid defender who can take the third tall and thornton fits that bill
hardly gonna let jamison or the other kids go are you?
or we could go the other way and swap a forward target like fisher for kosi

not me. i hope i'm spelling his name correctly. we don't want, need or desire him at all, ever. period.!!!!!:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

I would also like to see Judd play forward at short stages during the game. Perhaps even alternate between him and Stevens in the forward line. Also we need Stevens playing closer to the forward line, his delivery to the forwards is very valuable. Now we have a good rebounding half-back line we can afford to have Judd, Gibbs, Stevens and/or Murphy playing more between half-forward and center rather than between center and Half-Back.

Someone at the club obviously disagrees with you - every time his contract comes up, we try and poach him. Last time was 2006 IIRC.

We chased Kosi and caught Ackland. Bah!
