Yea um it's called lag ;)

If your playing on a 56k your gonna get lag with pretty much any game you play. Best thing to do is try to find a close server and one without a heap of people on it. Also make sure your system specs are higher then the min required for the game that might speed it up a little too.

If I remember rightly, my son reckoned a stripped down version of win95 was best.

A decent ISP might help too. I'm on the ihug unlimited data/hours plan and I get shocking pings!
I would consider broadband, but it's just damn to expensive!

I used to play Counter Strike on the less busy IInet servers on a 56k with IInets Unlimited plan and I hate to say it but next to broadband it's the fastest I've seen. Don't expect to get any customer service from IInet though

I used to play counter-strike but not anymore.. 56k isnt too bad most people over react. I have had cable for about 4 months and theres not that much of a difference. With 56k for CS would really would have to have unlimited hours and downloads or it would be out in a flash.

At the Moment - I play Battlefield 1942, Starcraft/Brood War and Warcraft 3. Games like Starcraft arent too bad with 56k except you may lag for about 20 seconds each game that goes about 30 min no rushing :D. Warcraft is pretty much the same. As for battlefield it uses up alot of downloads and I dont think 56kers would enjoy that game too much :(.

56k is alright but definatly if you can get cable or something its the way to go. If you dont have the money or something like that then dont worry 56k is alright.

Don't know much about those games you mentioned, but they sound like strategy based games? QuakeIII relies on precision timing and accuracy, so if there are lags in the play i don't think i'll bother.

the problem with Starcraft and similar games is maybe it'll only lag for a bit, but it normally happens at the worst possible moment.

Neverwinter Nights has very very little lag over 56K if you play on australian servers.

Basically, if you're playing FPS games over dialup, lag will be a problem unless you're playing on your ISP's own gaming servers.

I used to play Turok 2 on 56k and it hardly ever lagged, if you really want to play fps games you need to find something simple that doesn't send huge ammounts of data for example BF 1942.

Its really not that bad... at the worst possible moment. In starcraft it usually lags EVERYONE for the entire game.
