Is starting to worry me a little. He is my fav player and i have been defending him all year, but yesterday his kicking and decision making ( especially) in the back half were pretty average. I now know the reason why he played hff all season and gets he stats forward of the centre (this is good) i think its cuz we dont want the ball in his hands coming out of defence. Has any 1 noticed that he never really player fulltime as a follower like judd and stevens? I honestly dont think he is bad a kick but he needs to work on the way he holds it and the way he drops it.

Would there be some1 @ the club that would be coaching and mentoring him in this?

Yeah am disappointed in him we have Ratts, Braddles and Williams down there what are they doing? It seems to me he has gone backward with this kicking and general awareness. But it also could be the third year Blues and he is still young.

To me, he seems to be trying to deliver bullet like passes all the time, rather than just chipping the ball out in front of a team-mate. And his awareness yesterday, particularly when he got caught with the ball wasn't that flash at all. If he could just improve in these areas, he'd become a much more dangrous player. Hopefully someone like a Craig Bradley can work with him over Summer, and iron out these minor issues with his game. At least he is getting the ball, which is the important thing.

i was at the game yday and thought simpsons decision making was shocking in the 2nd quarter.3 or 4 times he made crucial errors, where he missed free players.stevens disposal was questionable as well..
Oh well,we fought it out till the end like most this yr which is great to see

I remember simpson had about 3 kicks in the forward half all in a minute and burnt them all.

Everything about him is top class, except his awareness can be iffy sometimes and disposal efficienncy definitely need to improves (like 69% at the moment?). He'll get better with another pre-season under Diesel and Braddles.

He has got judd like core strength ... but he does leen to the left when he kicks for goal. I think his decision making is fairly good most of the time. Lest we forget he is still a very young player who is going very farr!

Also his awareness has unforetunately been terrible. Seems to get caught with the ball in every game he plays.
Murphy displays the footy smarts and "awareness" enough to judge the flow of play and knows where opposition players are in the vacinity of play. This "awareness" issue gives me the shits, because he has 17 team mates on the ground with him who have a sets of eyes and throats.

Why does it feel like the crowd are the only ones screaming "HE'S ON YOUR HAMMER!!!" - basic under 10's footy, do the team thing and let him know he's about to be tackled.

Exactly dude. If everyone is referring to the start of the last quarter when he got run down (can't think of any other time during the game where he got caught off the top of my head), I think Murp did the right thing, was 10m clear and wasn't running flat out as he was waiting for an option to appear ahead of him. There should have been someone there to give him a shepard and a voice to let him know he was under the pump.

And the point about him trying to kick bullets all the time is spot on. When he kicks to space he is one of the best, he just tries to kick too many Buckley passes.

Think he is a great talent and really tries very hard. However there does seem to be an issue with his awareness at times. Having said this in some games he seems razor sharp with everything he does but then in other games looks very nervous. Not sure why this is. We seem to have a high number of players who suffer similarly as Murph in this area.

Really felt Stevens was off yesterday for much of the game. Whilst he had 30 plus possessions his head just didn't seem to be there as much as it has been in previous weeks. Looked like he was back to getting ahead for easy possessions and also was far less definitive with his disposal than he has been of late. On Simpson though felt like he was a bit better but this was just from what I noticed on tv.

Yep. Hopefully his consistency improves with age and experience.

This is obviously just my opinion, but I don't reckon Simpson is a very valuable player for us. I KNOW he works his ass off and is super team-oriented and does the one per-centers well, but as a winger it's his job to deliver the ball into the forward line, and he's just not very good at that, plain and simple. His foot-passing is just not AFL standard.

OK, now all shoot me down.

Is anyone else here worried about the alarming way Murphy is going backwards? I love the kid he is going to be a star, someone has to work with him quickly.

Go and have a glass of warm milk. Both of you.

Both of you!

If he is going to be a star, why are you worried????

Your player assessment is very average at the best of times.

So you think Murphy is alarmingly going backwards:eek:.

How did you come to that conclusion, was it the the 2nd half against the doggies or the first 6-8 games this year when he was consistently in the best players and probably leading the BnF?

His kicking all year has not been of the quality you would expect. His awareness at times is not very good either. All they need to do is get Williams or Braddles to work with him simple, at least he's not as far gone as Carrazzo, Russell etc

His awareness is fine.
It's really good actually.
His only problem is that he thinks he can weave and twist
his way out of every tackle that is applied.
Seriously, he tried this about 6-7 times and every time
he got caught and coughed it up.
I was sitting with crows supporters and they kept asking why number
three thinks he can break any and every tackle.
He ends up hand balling into mid air.
I love the fact that he 'takes on' the opposition at every opportunity
and with experience i think he'll learn to become at little
less prone to getting backed into a corner.
