Even if Murray goes to the can we should stick by the kid. Crazy talent and we are in the business of winning premierships. Barnaba said it all wrong in '08 he said "what happens on-field isn't as important as what happens off-field." The statement allowed for us to be shithouse when really we should have turned the culture around whilst keeping that winning culture.

what he should have said was "What happens off-field is now as important as what happens on-field." Lets get this kid right and let him tear the AFL a new hole when he turns it around. It will bring the club together. We should be supportive. Lets get that family aspect of the club going again, the "us against them" mentality.

Yeah i agree... If West Coast want to set an example and show that they can turn players futures around with its strong culture it needs to start with Newman.

Murray has exactly the skill set we seem to lack...on the field...agree with flamingEMBERS that we need to rebalance the club culture. we need to work with Murray and ensure that our family takes care of its own.

Yeah he does have a little, but if he can avoid jail in Sept. (I'd be pretty confident really) then I think he'd approach pre season in a lot better shape, both physically and mentally. It has been 10 months since he was charged and who knows how that has really affected him.

That's if he wants to go on. If he doesn't get a contract extension this year it might be because footy just isn't that important to him.

Exactly. No point retaining him if his heart won't be in it and he doesn't make it his sole focus.

Just look at what we did with Worsfold all year :cool:

Just one of the liabilities that we have on our list at the moment that we should dispense with ASAP.

Newman is one of the more talent players we've picked up since 07. But if 2014 isn't going to be 100% about football he can spend it on the rookie list.

Nobody will touch him but us. Give his spot to Bennell or Tunbridge and if his court case gets sorted out and he's in a position to play football and wants too then we can move forward.
 
He shouldnt be delisted, we can't afford to be getting rid of skilled, pacy players. Collingwood had no problem playing Marley Williams who has similar charges.

He is definitely not a liability in a footballing sense. Must be kept, at the very least on the rookie list.

How you can consider him not to be a liability in any sense is beyond me. If he is not a liability in a football sense then what is he? Guess we'll have to agree to disagree, either way I cannot see him being on our list in any capacity next year.

Why can't you see him on our list? Other than his GBH charge, he hasn't really done anything wrong that hasn't been done before.

So did Walters which caused him to fall to pick 50 odd when he was rated in the top 20 by most. We need one of these types to go our way, I hope we keep him and he repays the faith. (Assuming he doesn't get locked up)

He could be our next Walters, we need to persist and give him all the support he needs.
 
We need to support this kid and get him up in his life and footy.

Ted38 wants us to get rid him, and wash all hands of him.

I say we as a club get behind him and support his development.

Hopefully he can turn it around, also dont want WCE to be a club that deserts there players in a time of need.

What has he done that's been beneficial to the club since he's been on our list?
When we draft or rookie list players it's to improve our list for the future, in other words it's an investment that we are hopeful of getting a return on. With some players it doesn't always work out that way and we have to cut our losses by getting rid of them. Newman is one of those and that's why he'll get the flick.

You ask what has he done that is beneficial, then point out that recruitment is for the improvement of our list in the future....... The future is more than 2 years, especially when drafted at 18. I am confident that if he is retained and gets it all sorted out, our list will be significantly better off than otherwise.

Feel free to bump this when the last list lodgment comes around and he's still on there.
