Yeah must not forget they are just kids. They will grow out of it.

Really? I would've thought they are young adults who happen to be leading a fairly privileged lifestyle that requires of them a certain amount of responsibility and accountability.
No doubt the subject person will have plenty to add to his Facebook site after he gets the flick;).

No, no one talks like that either ... Just like middle class white guys shouldn't feel the need to talk like they're straight out of Compton. It's borderline ******ed.

If it was done as a joke between buddies, then in context maybe that's fine - but when you're a starting mid for WC on $400k per annum maybe work out those privacy settings ...

But that might restrict hot chicks messaging them for bang bang. He is a starting mid for WC on $400k after all, he shouldn't have to try to get hot chicks.

I consider myself relatively articulate but I talk like a moron to my friends all the time, it's just a bit of a laugh. Generational thing perhaps.

Nothing to do with a generational thing.

I suggested in my first post it might be an attempt at humour with mates - in which case they needed proper privacy settings ...

The reference to fellow by a white guy in a public forum when said white guy is a high profile sportsman is fraught with risk - no matter how silly that might sound.

A younger generation raised with social media should be more aware of that risk - so it's not generational, it's just dumb.

For those interested:

In Western Australia's District Court on Friday, Newman was told he would face a three-day trial beginning on December 16.

Not great timing for us, that'll be after the PSD and rookie drafts :(

Still think we should delist and re-rookie him. If he gets off, or at least doesn't get a jail term, let him work his arse off to get a senior spot back.

Yep, he's still only 19!! Michael Walters only came good last year and he was 21. Really hope he gets another chance to prove himself.

I don't condone what Murray has done but i hope the club support him through this period.

Not only for his talent but i think we owe it to ourselves to turn him around.

Prison won't serve as rehabilitation, never does. It's only purpose is punishment.

I would have thought that throwing a young man in prison when he could do so much more in the community is counter productive.

Nothing more comes from it than a punishment served.

I hope common sense in this case will prevail.

So what would a player like Newman be on a year? if someone like Shuey is on 400k.

He's currently on his first contract, standard 2 year contract that is signed when drafted. The base would be 60k with match payments, I think this is the rate for reasonably high draft picks, could be wrong though.

could he afford a good lawyer with that?
Sure can....

heck me what is happening in this world. Why does a ten year old boy have facebook? To scope eight year old sluts?

Speaking of Facial book.

I was outside a pharmacy the other day, a lady came up to me and asked if I would participate in a survey.
I said 'Sure"!
She asked me what I use most for grooming.
I looked at her with a straight face and said.... "the Internet!"

Well, the one Hirdy had would have charged 15k a day for court appearance. Lawyers however, are generally happy do be nice footballers, they like to get "in" with the crowd.

He'll probably have some guidance from the club in terms of who to represent him too (as in they will have called someone in for him when they found out). He'll be alright though in terms of jail, no idea really what he's likely to get though, if guilty, given there are various factors that are capable of influencing the court. These include the crime itself (media pressure on night life violence is pretty high atm), his race (particularly in WA), the fact he's an AFL footballer (always the perception of being treated differently, be it for better or worse), if he's still on the Eagles list (shows his life is on track), his age at the time of the incident, victim impact statement ect.

Essentially, trying to predict atm what happens when, as it stands, he's going to trial is very difficult. But I'd have faith that he'll have a decent lawyer to act for him.

NO one goes to prison for first time aggrivated assault,
If its his first offence he gets a fine plus community service
If its his second offense that's a different story, he may get a 6 -12 month( suspended sentence).
If its his third offence, he's in there for 12 months minimium.
Worth persisting if he shows remorse and pays his way as a rookie .

Unless I've missed something, aren't they charging him with GBH?
Combined with the fact that he's apparently pleading not guilty it would be pretty hard for him to avoid jail if found guilty, first offence or not.

Pretty sure there is no mandatory sentencing when it comes to GBH.

Nah he'll avoid jail. If he got a custodial sentence it would be fully suspended.

It has been reported previously he's willing to plead guilty if it's a lower charge so it's not like he's saying it wasn't him, just the severity of it all.

I was under the impression it was the lesser charge ,GBH is more serious, but if first offense can still can be suspended if he pleads Guilty, slap on the wrist.

Correct.

My old man's a magistrate, I'll try and get his take when I next see him.
I seem to remember a 19 or 20 year old bloke getting 3 years for GBH on his first offence a few months ago but that might have been for a more serious assault.
Isn't Marley Williams also up for GBH in Albany?

Correct.

3 years? He'd have to have nearly killed the poor guy.

well Grievous Bodily Harm is what you get charged with when you actually seriously injure someone, so you could beat them half to death, or just break their jaw, its a pretty broad net. the 3 years may have been for something pretty savage.

he will not go to jail for his first offence.
