Moreso I think they will be obliged to stand by thier statement and keep him and try and make a good player out of him. It will be a great story. Doesn't help the bloke he thumped however. I wonder if the club has done something for the victim? Might be a bit dodgey if they did that....Having come out with a statement that they're standing by Newman straight after the guilty verdict, the club might have given up their right to terminate him.
If he gets jail they can probably say he's unable to perform his duties and so the contract comes to an end. But if he gets a suspended sentence I don't think they'll be able to axe him.
