Having come out with a statement that they're standing by Newman straight after the guilty verdict, the club might have given up their right to terminate him.

If he gets jail they can probably say he's unable to perform his duties and so the contract comes to an end. But if he gets a suspended sentence I don't think they'll be able to axe him.
Moreso I think they will be obliged to stand by thier statement and keep him and try and make a good player out of him. It will be a great story. Doesn't help the bloke he thumped however. I wonder if the club has done something for the victim? Might be a bit dodgey if they did that....

I'm not sure the "stand by him" over rides the various clauses he has broken in his contract. Stands to make us look silly though .... although we already risk that with deciding to retain a guy guilty of such a serious offence...

Didn't realise he did all that, fairly different to Newman.

Yes, Newman talked about it for 3 weeks first ...

Then beat the guy for 30 seconds .. there were "multiple punches" likely "more than 10" ..

Then be bragged about it ...

And he's permanently damaged the guys face ...

But sure he didn't kick him on the ground ...

So yeah it was different to Newman.

What's your point?

On balance Newmans was no better and given the premeditation and that Newman was sober, it's arguably worse ...

You struggling with basic concepts again?

I never said it was better or worse.

Seems you are struggling with logic.

So what was the point of your "fairly different to Newman" post then?

Taking into account the factors, Newmans would be seen as either roughly the same level of aggravation or worse .... which doesn't auger well ...

Which was what the poster you were responding to had suggested ...

You were either countering that view or just making a random senseless observation. If it's the former, my posts point is crystal clear (I.e you're wrong to suggest the differences help Murray); if it's the latter, then as you were ... normal ...

The poster I responded to said packer seems like a good bloke, with sarcasm intended. How you manage to get what Larri said to match your comment above astounds me.

Maybe you are a mind reader.

So you are just suggesting the facts are different as a meaningless, useless, pointless observation ... Ok.

And if you can't grasp the earlier stuff then you're in idiocy overload. Maybe you need a map.

A map for what?

What the heck are you on about?

Exactly. A map to show you how one gets from A to B.

It's pretty simple pantsless. What, if any, was the purpose of your observation?

Maybe you need a nap.

What are you 12? Pantsless? Damn dude where's the class?

Actually that was autocorrect.

But again, you fail to answer a simple question asked, what, 4 times?

You distracted me about no pants and maps.

I was just making a general comment that I didn't realise packer did what he did. I'm not sure how it bodes for Newman. I have no knowledge of how sentences are handed down.

I also don't know if nsw sentence any different to wa.

Sometimes comments are just comments. Nothing to be evaluated.

I certainly don't think it's positive.

Ok. Pointless comment that added nothing.

Fair enough.

FWIW, I'm of the view that the aggravating factors in Newman's case are likely worse. Formed primarily through sitting through Day 1 of the trial.

I do understand there are 2 very serious cases in the last few days in NSW which certainly has community sentiment heavily against such acts right at this second over there but you'd assume a judge would sentence based on the law. Not sentiment. He did express the deterrent aspect was a key and no doubt a high profile international pro sportsman has helped send that message.

Newman needs a lot if luck to not be imprisoned.

Newman needs a lot if luck to not be imprisoned.

I've done about 30'000 of those.

I think he may still be ok. The magistrate lashed Packer epically whilst newmans one seemed less pissed off.

Packers legal team and football club were very shocked at the sentence. Almost in disbelief.

It will be up to the judge to decide if threats constitute premeditation or otherwise. E87 actually think's alcohol and drug related violence is looked upon by judges better than other violence? shows how bloody clueless he is.

And then there is the part where Newman didn't punch and stop on Marris as he lay motionless on the ground. Newman was involved in an altercation with a drunk individual and received blows of his own. The threats and injury seemed enough to bring the charge of GBH.

As for E87's interpretation of the trail. I wouldn't place any value on the opinion of such a narcissistic POS.

Based on Packers case I would of thought (hope) Newman would get a 12 month suspended sentence.

Judge made specific mention in packer case of head hitting the ground but not receiving any injuries as others had done.
cowardly act to stomp plus packer is 112kg and 24 years old. the attack was unprovoked!!!!

Newman - there were punches by both parties yes other party sufferred a broken jaw and there seemed to be intentent. hard to know who started it.
so mainly based on intent and injury (not life threatening, nor did he get knocked out or head hit the ground).
