I don't think they should sack him personally - but the AFL will be levying pressure and the media will get their knickers in a twist.

He's done the wrong thing and he's about the pay the price - I don't give a shit what anyone says about jails being too comfortable now there's no way I'd like to spend 6 months there. I don't then believe it should be up to the AFL to then make demands on what the club should do if the club in fact decides to stand by him and help turn his life around

I hope the club continues to support him and keeps him on the list. Sad to see a young man go to prison, he did the wrong thing I know, but I'm sure he is a scared young man now.

I've been inside Casurina for work. I am not sure where he will end up but that wasnt too bad, especially since it is WA's max security prison. Basketball courts, gym, tv in rooms, wide open grassed areas with tables. It reminded me more of a crap resort than a jail. The really scary inmates are housed in a different area and kept from the general population at all times. Its not like prison break, put it that way.

Sorry to intrude, but I think the main differences between Marley/Murray is no one has suggested Marley's incident was premeditated and he seems to of shown remorse / done community service since then which I hope means he gets a fair bit less than 12 months

Well, his was premeditated - even he admitted that he hit the bloke as a form of self defense. So he thought about his options and decided that his best course of action would be to break the guy's jaw... as if walking/running away wasn't an option.

He won't get 12 months, but he should still do time.

Now if we could please have some much needed silence from the host of Bigfooty 'experts' suggesting that we persist with people like Garlett or Newman.

A premeditated GBH charge.... 12 months seems about right. Doubtful he will serve the whole sentence. We often see suspended sentences for lesser charges such as Assault or even Assault causing bodily harm. GBH is much more severe...

I hope he isn't too effed up after serving his time, wouldn't want the club to persist with him in any capacity other than duty of care.

The sad thing is that this is what CLUBS do. they stand by their players and members. If the AFL exert political pressure to dismiss him, then they're also dismissing the notion of a community club and pushing the notion of clubs being nothing more than a money making venture. Not that it'd be a shock...

It may of technically been premeditated but the prosecution never tried that line of arguing and the judge has never suggested it which means legally he won't face the same consequences as a guy who drived to someone's house to assault them for example. Marley's was more a spur of the moment thing over in a few minutes which generally gets a lesser sentence I hope

I'm personally not sure what's more dangerous to society. Someone with the temperament to snap and cause chaos at a whim or one who has a specific vendetta. I guess the law says the latter.

Yeah, sounds awesome.

Is he any good?

Was surprised he was kept on the list after the incidents last year. I assume he must do some freaky things at training andin the WAFL.

I reckon they kept him around until now so he wouldn't go on a downward spiral of having nothing to do if we sacked him, just my opinion

I think the fact he has played in the preseason disproves that theory. They were hoping for a lenient sentence but it never happened. It will be interesting to see what happens now. At least they had the foresight to rookie list him - unlike Collingwood.

My uncle was there for 7 years. It's not a friendly place.

As much potential as any other. Would have developed into something that we are in need of, which is a good and reliable small forward.

Y'know, minimum-security prison is no picnic. I have a client in there right now. He says the trick is: kick someone's ass the first day, or become someone's bitch.

I can't see the club keeping him on the list.

Neither can I but thats only because I'm a long way away and I can't see anything the club does from here

Jokes aside I think the club should wait until the end of the year before making a decision on whether to retain him on our list
