I was watching something about "Celebrity Feuds" online, and yesterday I was watching something about feuds in the music industry.

I notice that many bands end because of fallings out between members. Many a band has had long-lasting animosity between members, that can last decades.

So I thought it would be interesting to talk about feuds in music. Who hates who, and why?

So, tell me about feuds you know of. It could be your favourite singer or band. Let's talk about when musos didn't get along, and the music, at least for them, died.

If possible, set it out as ...... vs ......., and then details of the feud, and why they fell out. You can also give your verdict on who you side with.

So, what are the most memorable music feuds you know of?

What was that about?
Johnny stole Joey's girlfriend and ended up marrying her, they didn't speak for many years even though they still recorded and toured.

Davies brothers. Have both said The Kinks will never ever happen again because they just can't work together.

Is Kiedis jealous of Patton having talent?

Patton has always been more than a little critical of Kiedes and his California as some utopia shtick.

EDIT-Seems RHCP though FNM ripped them off. In 1999 Mr Bungle dressed as RHCP and did covers making fun of them. RHCP said they wouldn't do 2000 Big Day Out if Mr Bungle were on the bill. More irrefutable proof The Red hot Chili Peppers are w***ers of the highest order.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers were furious with T.I.S.M. after an Aussie tour in the 90's. It seems Flea in particular was angry at T.I.S.M. for the song 'He'll Never Be An Old Man River' which made fun of their late friend River Phoenix.

T.I.S.M. responded by mocking both Phoenix and RCHP. Support band 'The Screaming Trees' were also mad at T.I.S.M. saying that what T.I.S.M did was not music.

T.I.S.M. were 10 times more entertaining that either of the US bands.

Really quite petulant shit.

I believe Flea was playing in the band at the Viper Room the night river ODed. The other band members were Al Jorgensen (Ministry) and Johnny Depp.

Beach Boys - Mike Love v Brian Wilson regarding credit for certain songs

Had some pals in a band that had a burst of fame and were playing the bigger festivals, finished high in the hottest 100 and had their music on ads etc. Some were best pals since primary school. Was all over within a year - clashing egos etc. Brutal falling out.

Creative endeavours just bring the worst out in people. It’s all personal. Don’t believe any of the dudes made any dough from it. Outrageously talented and good people but the premiership clock zoomed past 12 pretty quick.

It's something we all like to believe, that bandmates are good mates, but with bands that have been together a long time, it's got to be quite rare. People start out in their teens or early 20s when they may be very close, but it's only natural that their paths split over time. Think of yourself and who your friends were, and what your interests were, at 15, then to 25, 30, etc, and how it's all changed over time. It could be a massive source of frustration to still be with the same people you were very close to half your lifetime ago, with every person in that group now very different, yet still referencing each other by who they used to be rather than are.

It sounds even more tragic with your friends though, like you said, good people and talented, but they didn't even get to have the time over a successful career to fall out first.

Sometimes friction brings out the best in a band. Beasts Of Bourbon were at their malevolent best when they were barely speaking to each other.

Dave Mustaine vs Metallica

Mr Bungle at Metropolis in Freo still remains as probably the best gig I've ever been to. Even if they didn't play 'The Girls of pr0n' because, as Mike Patton (wearing a sailor costume at the time) told us, we gave Neil Hamburger (comedian / support act) shit.
That band just oozed talent...

Same with Fleetwood Mac famously on their Rumours album.

Billy Corgan's feuded with many over the years, but i particularly remember him paying out on Radiohead a few years back.

Also had to do with their basic identities; Joey was a liberal, Johnny a conservative; Joey was an alcoholic who lived loosely and did what he wanted, Johnny spent years in military school and lived a strict lifestyle of discipline and order. They had very little in common, which always amazes me how they came to a point of producing music together

John Fogerty vs the world

Man was a genius but **** me, what an arrogant tool he loved being, which reminds me:

A little harsh.

He was arrogant to a degree but everything he did with and after CCR revolves around the idea that the other 3 band members wanted more than they were probably worth.
He wrote literally every song they’d recorded up until Mardi Gras(???) which I think was the festering turd record which was written under the guise of ‘if you want 25 per cent of revenue, do 25 per cent of the work’ so each of the others had to write a song. Actually now that I think of it Tom Fogarty might have been already gone from the band. The album flopped.

The also voted to sell the rights to their music to Saul Zaentz - not sure of the true story but the way JF tells it, they simple decided by a vote - and whatever label he owned. As a consequence once CCR broke up JF wasn’t even allowed to play his own songs. He even got sued at one point for plagiarising himself and had to play a guitar in court to prove that Old Man Down The Road wasn’t identical to Run Through The Jungle.

They did play as a full band at Tom’s wedding after they’d broken up and he’s said that he did kind of reconcile with his brother before he died.

On some of the others:
Oasis vs Blur is an obvious inter-band one
The Gallagher’s blue amongst themselves is hilarious. The way Noel just refers to his brother as ‘the singer’ or ‘our boy’ always cracks me up.

The ramones one is very sad. I think it contributed to the dynamic of the band so maybe they wouldn’t have been as good if Joey and Jonny didn’t fall out - The KKK Took My Baby Away is about Jonny stealing Joey’s girlfriend and was one of their best songs.

From a few things I’ve read there’s a bit of angst between the Page/Jones camp and Robert Plant in recent years regarding Plant’s reluctance to work towards a few live shows. When you’re 70 it’s fair enough though.

Not that Kyle Sandilands qualifies as a music person - his knowledge of the industry could be written in bold font on a tampon - but his little spat with Frenzal was pretty funny.
‘Your music will never be played on this network again.’
‘You’ve never played our music on your network.’

Big threat there champ.
