Jeff Lynne - writer, performer, producer, arranger and musician should have been inducted years ago. Best known as the leader of ELO Jeff has also lent his talents to many a musicians recordings over the years including Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Dave Edmunds, ONJ, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, amongst others. Was a galvanising force of the Travelling Wilburys, on the same talent level of those guys, that is for sure. This video was from 2001 and captures him in exellent form vocally, he had that nice warm voice - a mixture between George Harrison and Roy Orbison. The ELO catalogue, so many fantastic songs and his own solo career with a new album out this year.

Jeff Lynne is the only member of The Traveling Wilburys that isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... If he's good enough to play with these guys:

Then he's good enough for the hall.

Wait, Jeff Lynne ISN'T in the Hall of Fame? Who the hell made that mistake? The guy's absolutely fantastic. He does everything.

I'm like you, surprised, absolutely staggering that he isn't already in there:confused:???

Kiss not being in there is a major embarassment for them as well. Kiss have their haters, and there's plenty of them. Their claims against other cannot be denied.

Having said that, rarely do find somebody inducted that isn't worthy either. Would be interesting to see the selection criteria.

Kiss should definitely be in there - You can say what you want about them and their style, but Rock and Roll All Nite, Shout It Out Loud, Detroit Rock City, I Was Made For Lovin' You... They've got one of the most recognisable song lists of any band this side of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

I honestly thought they got inducted in the mid-'90s. Must have been mistaken.

Currently, groups or individuals are qualified for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Nominees should have demonstrable influence and significance within the history of rock and roll. Four categories are recognized: Performers, Non-Performers, Early Influences, and Sidemen (as of 2000).

A nominating committee composed of rock and roll historians selects names for the "Performers" category, which are then voted on by roughly five hundred experts across the world. Those selected to vote include academics, journalists, producers, and others with music industry experience. To be selected for induction, performers must receive the highest number of votes, and also greater than 50% of the votes. Around five to seven performers are inducted each year

The criteria.

+1 for Jeffy.

My nomination is ROKY ERICKSON.

Influential psychadelic pioneer and drug and law victim.

Erickson's 1960s band, the 13th Floor Elevators, have been called the originators of psychedelic music. They were certainly the first to apply the word to disorientating, acid-warped rock, influencing the likes of Janis Joplin (who almost joined) and the Grateful Dead, and later covered by REM, Primal Scream, the Jesus and Mary Chain and even ZZ Top (whose roots also lie in Texas psychedelia). You might recognise the Elevators' incendiary first single, You're Gonna Miss Me, from the opening scene of High Fidelity.

Despite (or because of) his mental illness, released some fantastic horror-themed, hard rock recordings in the late 70s early 80s.

His more recent releases are sweet, contemplative albums with an almost childlike naievete at times.

The Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame NEEDS Roky Erickson

Noel Gallagher
Ian Brown
Scott Walker
Johnny Marr

I don't like Noel Gallagher or Oasis a whole lot. But nobody can deny his/their contribution to music.

I still periodically see circulated on Facebook (yes, that's the limit of my SM) lists of artists not in the R&R HoF. And there are plenty of them.

The last one I saw prompted me to realize something - I never see Australian artists mentioned on these lists. I thought of 4 who could be considered straight away - LRB (the original band, not the current lot of frauds), Air Supply, INXS & Rick Springfield.

All would meet the eligibility criteria I would think.

This isn't a commentary on the merits of the HoF (we all know how flawed it is), nor whether you like the acts I mention or not. It's simply that these acts don't seem to get a mention in the "should be there" lists I see, despite likely being eligible.
