Blues must beat Geelong this week.

Cats are hit hard by injuries, game is at Optus.. this is one of the best chances Carlton will have to record a much-needed home gound win.

Carlton were ok last week, it was always going to be tough in WA, and I think that they were one of the better losers of Rnd1.

A win this week will be a big kick for this new-look team

More like Carlton need someone on the field to go:

Calm down, look where you're kicking the ball - it might not come back as quickly then.

Too many d50 clearances (Houlihan especially) where the ball was thumped onto the foot into the arms of an unsuspecting Freo player, who naturally punished us.

Cleaner disposal out of defensive 50 = less scoring opportunities = less pressure on defense = more f50 entries = a higher chance of a clean f50 entry = more scoring opportunities for us = more pressure on the opposition

That's our biggest problem, d50 clearing - get the ball out of there nice and neat, and suddenly we will have opposition teams with a bit of pressure on them, then they start to make slips and mistakes.

Just a big game of tug o' war if you play it right... but we keep getting dragged into the mud :p

Give the boys time to gell together as a team. I agree this week presents our best opportunity of starting that long climb.

The only measure of how much we have improved will be the round 22 ladder.

Removal of pitiful trolling effort - ODN

excuse me i dont go on geelong boards and post obscene messages on how geelong are hopeless and their failure to win a premiership, so dont do it here. go to the general boards if you want to fight

I'm sure it was disrespectful if it had been edited by a moderator. Troll Carlton all you want on the main board... but this is our turf. The only place in BigFooty where we are free from trolling.

Clarkey...

Is he really getting a game?

If you manage to drag him early you have a better chance, if he stays for the whole game, you will lose. What do the Blue's faithful think of him?

Our worry is first contact from the centre (thank god no Stevens), and keeping Lance and Fervola out of the match.

Can't really pick it just yet. You have the return from WA to deal with, we were just steam rolled by the Saints. We don't play OO too well, but then again.......never mind.

May the not so crappy team win.

Probably abit harsh on Clarke, although every Cats supporter I have spoken to says pretty much the same thing....was he actually that bad or are the reports about his injuries/interupted 2003 pre-season the reason he probably had such a bad season last year. Apparently he has worked pretty hard on his kicking this year. I just find it hard to see how someone so bad could play every game for Geelong from round 13 1999 to round two 2003

Given that we've only seen him play one 'real' game for the Blues it's probably abit early to say. Until then I for one will give the guy a fair go before passing any judgement

I don't think too highly of him (Clarke), but he's not as bad as people tend to make out. His disposal isn't great and does need a fair bit of work, but he can hit targets when he slows down and shows some poise.

I'm fully expecting Ling to hurt us in a best on ground performance, but if we can atleast be competitive in the midfield and give our foward line some decent chances then I think we're in for a real shot. I'm not sure how Whitnall will lineup, but personally I think he needs to be down foward, as he's too good a player just to have as a sweeper/spare man in defence. The Pagan paddock addmittedly doesn't suit him, but in a perfect situation it'd be big Lance marking out beyond the 50m line and bombing it in for a Kenna, Fevola, Lappin, Camporeale, Fisher etc. to run onto, obvisously not the other way round.

Any word on whether or not Bowyer will lineup? I love his game and believe he gives our defence/midfield another element.

I think we can win, but football is a strange game and we could certainly end up on the wrong end of a hiding if the boys don't assert themselves early.

Blues by 22 points in a scrappy game.
