has developed this habit of chewing my doona while he purs really loudly. He also stomps his feet as if he is walking on the spot. It puts him in a trance state. Why does he do it?

He is old btw..13 year old half Siamese half Burmese.

Any cat lovers know why?

Yep, he is about to turn into an attack cat & rip your throat out, the doona is practice. :D

I doubt it..he knows I am the only one who will feed him. ;)

But you will be feeding him in a way, how long do you think he could survive living off your remains. :D

Nup, Kenny is snoring away on his futon bed, dreaming of apple blossoms, fairies & schmackos. :D

He aint sick..just a lil old.

And he is the most mellow cat..doesnt do much really. Too domesticated to be a killer and to stoned most of the time to care. ;)

How would you know what your dog is dreaming about? schmackos? More like a 3yo toddler.

NO WAY!!

It's always an option.

Was out at lunch with my girlfriend and her cronies and she was worrying about having the dog put down because she's getting a bit old and attacking the cat for no reason.

So everyone suggested putting the cat down. :D

hahaha typical!! :D :D

Frosties to answer seriously; the cat might be chewing your doona for the health of its teeth, they chew other stuff to keep their teeth strong. Re the treading water, on what surface? On a doona, he might be just making a comfortable spot for himself. Then, at 13 years old, he might have a bit of senile dementia and have forgotten that he intended to lie down and sleep.

Or just forgotten that you're meant to lie down and close your eyes when you do sleep.

Speaking of, night all. :o <-- looks like a yawn. <-- looks like I got sleeping mask on ;) trying to watch footy replay on Fox while sleepy  <-- ?'s are really z's.

hmm thats what I thought. Just old age and like humans when they reach a certain age they go back to being little kids.

poor old fella..

Makes me laugh when he does it though.

OK Frosties. I will give you a serious answer now, thought you were just joking in your original post, Mobbs is pretty much spot on, seeing your cat is getting old, he might soon become incontinent, why don't you buy him one of those new cat beds, they are shaped like a tent & place it next to your bed, cat will be happy & warm & if he has an accident, you only have to rinse out his bed.

Frosties, if your cat has just started the chewing habit then he may need to have his teeth checked by the vet. Older cats sometimes need to have a couple of teeth removed. He may be chewing at the doona to soothe his teeth. A bit like babies do when they are teething!

As for the stomping of his feet. It's usually done to comfort themselves. Take him to the vet for a general check up though.
My eldest cat is 12 years old and he has started to do some strange things lately. I've begun to wonder if he isn't going senile!
But he had his annual check up at the vets on Saturday and the vet raved about what magnificent condition he was in and couldn't believe he was 12 years old.

Get your cat checked, he may just need some dental work!

Have to agree, time to visit the vet. But seeing the breed, I'm guessing that's definitely not a favourite activity! :) Sounds like a beautiful cat...

It means that your cat is ready to pounce. Watch your legs. My cat did that when she was alive. She was always purring loudly and she would pounce on our feet.

It means that the cat is being playful.

Get some string so that he can play with it.
