P14 James Sellar:

after last years championships and for the early part of this year was touted as the number one pick. People forget that he is massively bottom age, only just scraped into this years draft. Wont be an afl ruckman, but in a promising sign debuted for glenelgs league team at CHF and managed a lazy 4. Massive upside, wont be ready for 2 years probably but i really really rate this kid.

P32 Kurt Tippet:

Giant ruckman, 19 years of age, strong performance at DC. Another ruckman, but like Sellar can also play forward, now theres an interesting proposition for any defence, mind a 200cm bloke who can take a good grab and is known for his goal kicking too. Too good to overlook at this pick, real happy we got him.

P48 David MacKay

dont really know much about him so will just post someone elses assessment:
Almost certain to be drafted, yet his placement in the draft pool is still a little up in the air. Has been rated as a second round selection, while others suggest he may be a late pick. Hawthorn and Collingwood are two clubs understood to be keen on him and the Hawks could seriously pounce and think he was a steal at this selection.

Highlights/achievements: Quick and long kicking midfielder who represented Vic Metro at U18 level this year. Impressive member of Oakleigh Chargers Premiership side in 2006. From Trinity Grammar."

sounds good though... i like his type

Last Two Gill & Campbell

Gill.... I really think he will make it, strong pair of hands, quick and whilst people bag his kicking its only one shocker every now and then most are pretty good and accurate. Pretty much a quick fix for trent but could stil turn out to be good i reckon.

Campbell... Adds grunt to our midfield. Mature age but sometimes players mature at different stages and i think he really came of age this year, willb e a very handy acquisition, also on a side note Dummond creamed his pants when he was selected

Overall I am very happy with both the types of players we have picked up and who we picked up.

I was hoping Sellar would slide and thankfully he did. As RooDog said he is bottom age and athletic type with a lot of upside. I know we rate his leadership qualities very highly.

Tippett has intruiged me for some time now. He did VERY well in the draft camp and for a player for that time, and his upside is enormous. He is a genuine forward who can play in teh ruck. Great mark and straight kick. Sellar, Tippett and Hentschel could form one hell of a 3 talls in the forward line down the track.

Mackay sound interesting. Has pace which is a bonus and SEN boys gave him a huge rap when we called out his name saying he single handedly got the Chargers over the line in the TAC Cup GF.

Nick Gill is obviously insurance type pick. Stong mark, crap kick but another athletic tall that stared in the state screening in just about every category. I can see why we did it and its worth a punt with 4th rounder but personally I would have gone with a kid.

Bryce Campbell has stared in SANFL and is the tough inside nut that we could do with. Happy with this pick especially with selection 78.

fact is, most of these guys will bust.

at least we got high talent with sellar so if it works out - great; and if doesn't we gave ourselves every chance.

got to be happy with that, tippet sounds a little maric like

Oh, hell!! Now I remember him!! I did watch that game and he was bloody brilliant, and the SEN boys are right when they say he almost single-handedly got the Chargers up for the TAC cup. Blistering pace and huge dash!!

Very very satisfied with that selection!! :thumbsu: :D

IMO Gill had to be picked up by us. No Hentschel and no Biglands to have short stints up forward almost guaranteed his selection, because we needed a ready to go replacemt, not a long term developer.

He may only be there for a year or two, or he may make a permanent spot for himself when he gets a chance - the ball's in his court.

But IMO he was the insurance policy that was a must for us.

Macca if you remember we discussed him after that game.....smooth mover good pickup

Tippett generally has a good kick.. sometimes he is prone to missing sitters though. He was 5m out once, straight in front and shanked it for a behind. It was only a once ina while thing though probably due to him having not played this game for very long.

On the surface, the selections look pretty good. Sellar could well be the 12-year centre-half-forward we have always cried out for...god please...Loved his reaction on radio - he is a mad Crows fan.

Gill's only a quick fix for Trent and for pick 64, I'm willing to accept that. Campbell's a hard nut and will fit in nicely, I reckon (pick 78...that's no-loss territory).

The Gill and Campbell selections clearly reflect Craig's philosophy that teenagers aren't the be-all-and-end-all of recruiting. He's very much into 'mature' minds and bodies. For example, he has always defended the age of the Crows squad when the issue is raised.

Can't wait to see all the new lads run out onto the park.

Gill is definitely worth a punt. I have seen him star for the Roosters and he is worth a chance at the Crows considering the forward line injuries to the team.

People rightfully question his kicking ability but my main concern is the injury problems he suffered this year. Hopefully he can put them behind him but I didn't like seeing him in the Preliminary Final this year marking like Wayne Carey did in the late stages of his career - he couldn't put his hands above his shoulders.

Anyway, all that aside, he is worth the risk.

hmm not sur i like Sellar and Tippet, Mackay could turn out nicely as said he won the chargers the tac cup, Gill i dont like myself i would have rathered Justin Westhoff who Port picked he will be a gun Gill i dont think will make it, Campbell he looks ok.

no offence or anything, but based on your name, I'll take your opinions on players with a pinch of salt. ;) :D

It wasn't just Drummond that got a little excited. I think I fist pumped the air too hard and did an injury. :D

Absolutely was ecstatic after seeing Sellar's name. Two years of waiting, watching Gibbs and Sellar down at the Bays, thinking they would go 1, 2 (Sellar number 1), and until late this year, that would have been impossible. It could turn out to be a magnificent steal for the club. Am also happy with Tippet, didn't know too much about hum until the championships, and my liking towards him incrreased dramatically at the DC. Don't know much about McKay, but am hapy that we took Gill, as he can hold the fort whilst Hentschel is injured, and bridge the gap between now and the time Sellar is dominant. Neither here nor there with Campbell. He could turn out like Huddo and be worth it, but also could turn out like Brodie Atkinson. Only time will tell.

From what I can work out now our list is full, how many Rookies can we take. I know it can be four but can it be as many as six?

The veterans list counts as rookies don't they IIRC? So if we have 2 players on the veterans list then we can take 4 rookies max. Is that right?? Or am I all wrong?

Not my draft assessment but that of Colin Wisbey, as an outsider's opinion. He rated Sellar at 3 and Tippett at 12:

http://www.voy.com/51976/84938.html

"(13 including Hawkins). i.e. The players I liked most, regardless of where they might go in the draft:-

1. Gibbs
2. Hawkins
3. Sellar
4. Proud
5. Jetta
6. Thorp
7. Hansen
8. Houli
9. Djerrkura
10. Hislop
11. Selwood
12. Tippett
13. Collard

In particular, I could have happily ranked Jetta anywhere within 2-5, despite a common query re his ability to adapt to AFL regimen. I've always felt, as I did Franklin and Clark, that he needed AFL centre stage and would take to AFL like a duck to water.

Armitage just missed out and would have been in there were his kicking more reliable. Will be an AFL long-termer anyway though.

Regardless of my thoughts on Leuenberger per se, I no longer (as a matter of policy) include any specialist ruck in my top 15.

Gumby was at 14. I greatly respect him but am not convinced he will be quite as good as most people think."

Did Colin publish any of his profiles for our draftees?

I haven't seen any.

He's spat it big time recently, saying he's been cyber-stalked by a couple of losers rubbishing him and his profiles for some time now, and refuses to publish his profiles any more to avoid the angst.

Pity, they always made a good read, even if a litttle over-detailed.
