Just reading an article in the Herald Sun about Melbourne front ending contracts and at the moment we are paying just 85% of the the salary cap and Connolly saying that we are probably going to go younger again next year. Gives us a hell of a lot of room for the future and keep our young group together in the future.

If anyone can post the article if it's online I couldn't find it.

That is a good point. One other potential option which this opens up is the prospect of signing a big-name player (such as Pavlich) from another club. Although I'm not sure this is necessarily the approach I would take, it is an option in any case.

Wheatley could be on a fair amount as well. He seems like the forgotten one because hes been out with injury.

Not forgotten just not bothered with because I've resigned to the fact that's he's here for good, something tells me we won't trade him or delist him and we're just going to be stuck with him.

Piss him off to Sydney though, they'd have some sort of interest.

We need the use to the space to front end a few though. Morton, Grimes and Maric will all be out of contract at the end of the year and looking for deals for a few years and decent money.

But its definitely a benefit of a young list that you can pay the minimum cap and save on a fair bit of cash.

Gold Coast will throw a heap at Morton. Hopefully he's a loyal player

And its a good thing too. Gone are the days where we tolerate average, sub-standard players eating into our salary cap...

From now on, any Melbourne player who's earning a packet is going to have to bloody well earn it.

And that's the way it ought to be...:thumbsu:

IIRC Cale signed a contract extension and is contracted until the end of next year.

I'm not 100% on that though. If so, please extend his contract again please.

I don't want the GC taking any of Morton/Grimes/Maric/Watts/Blease at LEAST.

Give them Miller.

If we can get in to a good financial position, with this sort of cap room, the apparently inevitable free agency could be huge for us.

Chris Judd???

Draftees get 2 year contracts, they are out of contract at the end of next year.

Gold Coast can but they won't go.

spot on Dez. ESPECIALLY Blease who im told by a very reilable source was told in no uncertain terms 'you will play for Casey Seniors this week with an eye to play for Melbourne in next month, DO NOT, repeat DO NOT play footy at school with your mates, wrap urself in cotton wool and take it easy'.

2 days later he breaks his leg in lunchtime footy...

Even though he's a youngster and you cant blame him for being excited and being a kid, he owes the MFC.

That was pretty stupid of Bleasy but ahh well he'll come good. Looks like we'll have some coin to spare coming up and that's always good :)

Throw as much money as possible on Grimesy as well!
