My thoughts on Carlton vs Freo

Watch it again. Tarrant wasn't beaten. Had 2 opponents inside the 50.

Took at least a dozen marks. Had 4 shots on goal. Kicked 1 goal 2 behinds and 1 fell short (marked by Hampson on the line). 2 goal assists.

If he had of kicked straighter he would of been BOG. Nothing to do with the defender 'holding' him.

1st game player Chris Mayne was great also. Kicked a couple, chased and tackled well.

I guess the best thing is just agree to disagree. We are both completely biased and are not going to change our minds.

That is a typical Tarrant performance. That is why he is a good forward & not a great one. FWIW, Adam Hartlett had 3 shots on goal & nailed them all, including one from about 55 metres. That is the return you want from your forwards.

I learnt some very interesting things from the commentary of the game.
* that two fingers means a goal and one finger means a point.
* that the ball is made of leather and it contains air.
* That Jeff Farmer should never be allowed to commentate again, or should I say yeah, nah, Jeff Farmer should never be allowed to commentate again....

Maybe its the difference of 1 week but I was really surprised of the difference in availability of personnel from the Collingwood v Adelaide game to the Carlton v Freo game. Across alot of the lines the C v A game had key players in whereas to me both Carlton and Freo seemed to be missing 6-8 of their best players.

I hope we dont have a dud start to the year on account of injuries.

And Tarrant can continue to get alot of the ball 60 metres out from goal because he doesnt hurt you with it. This is why opposition Clubs dont fear him. Solid marking player but not much else.

He can keep getting the ball 30m out from goal as well........he has NEVER hurt us........from any range.........BTW if Jammo plays like that throughout the season he'll play 22 games and as a defensive unit we'll do pretty well.

Our injuries are pretty minimal ATM (touch wood) with only a few guys in "recovery" but in the "would play if it was a final" mode.

Expect Fev and Fisher to play this week, and apart from Judd and Tex, pretty close to our best 22 should appear at some stage.:thumbsu:

Have finally been able to watch the game, albeit the first half, and some of my thoughts from the first half are:

Guys like Murphy, Russell and Gibbs have bulked up considerably since last year

Hartlett has put on some weight as well, and presented well accross the half forward line, kicking 3 1st half goals.

Stevens looked good, and his experience in the midfield this year will be invaluable.

Simmo did lots of running as usual.

Being into drafting/kids as you are I would reccomend you find the 2nd half somewhere and watch Ellard's 5-10 min cameo.....thought it was outstanding

Yeah Ellard was great, looked like he belonged, composed, and despite being the smallest and slightest bloke out there he put his head over the ball when required to and won a couple of contested possessions :thumbsu:

Hopefully trying to avoid a repeat of his slow start to last year.:thumbsu:

I'm hopefully going to watch the second half tonight, now that ch.9 aren't allowed to show Underbelly.

He did a couple of nice things in the second quarter which made me sit up and take notice.

Hate commercial TV with a passion* but that was one show I was definitely going to catch. Wouldn't you know it! Our very own Blue Murder, still the best Aussie made crime show I've seen on telly.

*Gordon Ramsay is ****ing grouse.

QFT. Imagine having Ramsay on our coaching panel. That'd fire em up :thumbsu:

Can see him now coming out of the change rooms shaking his head after a 100 point thumping:
"****ing hell, it's worse than I thought".
