Are clearly the only ones on this board that rate Mark McGough.

We will start a pressure group to keep the man at the CFC (Figjam doesn't know yet but when he see this he will give me his full support I am sure).

Anyone that wants to join, is welcome, just post below and you will be added to the pressure group.

At the moment I am thinking of chaining ourselves to the Lexus Centre.

Give mccough the arse i say.

I'd just like someone to explain to me why Malthouse told McGough his display against Carlton in round 22 was gutless. FFS he was on for 9 minutes and got 2 kicks (that both hit the target) and made 2 good tackles.

* My mate knows him.

Well if you have any inside goss, spill ya guts.

Maybe there is more to this situation than i thought.

I just dont think he can kick thats all.

He has courage.

That's all I know.

That and he used to go to Newcastle (I think) for family holidays with my mate.

Its not much.

If mick said it was gutless, than mick crossed the line in my opinion.

A bloke could be wrecked by that comment.

Then again it confirms a few things that i have heard about what why players lose confidence and so forth.

Maybe mick doesnt love the boys as much as he makes out.

Malthouse is a ********ing moron. He is the one who should be having a wake!

In the Carlton game, McGough did only get two possies (one from a good strong mark accross half back), but he laid four tackles officially (I actually counted five). All tackles were very, very solid.

Two possies per nine minutes of game time, is actually 25+ posessions in an average 120 minute game if multiplied out. It's also fricken 53 tackles!

If that's gutless, I don't know what Malthouse is expecting. It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Mr Burns keeps telling Maddingly to shave his sideburns and he keeps doing everything required of him, moreso, yet Burn's still sacks him!!

I am literally thinking of applying pressure to Malthouse's head, but I will opt for Hoggy's non-violent option and will chain myself to the Lexus Centre, until such time as McGough reaffirms that he wants to stay with us and that Malthouse shows enough guts to give him full games in the middle!!

Ahem. I like him. Would be sorry to see him go.

I'm not really into chains though, regardless of what you've heard.

Stuff that, that was the only reason why I was in.. :p

Shack really has to come on now, as we have NO midfielders with clearing ability bar Burnsy and Licca, with Goughy gone.

I am a fan of McGough’s ball getting and clearance work and what seems to me to be a great ability to read the play. Unfortunately he is pretty slow and a poor kick and we have a lot of slowish players and/or poor kicking players. Something definitely has to give. I would like to keep McGough and Shaw for that matter but the reality is we have to clear a minimum of 6 and probably more players. There are 3 obvious suspects - Kinnear, Williams and McKee. 2 of those 3 are apparently on their way. We still have to offload 3 to 6 more players. Unless you can name those you are kidding yourself.

Ok so my vote on alternatives goes to:

O'Bree - just too up and down, another poor kicking slowcoach and I would think he's on reasonable money. Hopefully tradable.

Nixon - shown nothing at all. I would drop him and rookie him to give him 1 or 2 more cheap years to prove he can make it at VFL level and then consider a promotion.

Swan - some chance at a career but we have a few of him and he might have a value.

King - might have a value.

Shak - doubt he has any value. I wouldn't complain if he got 1 more year but I have doubts he’ll make it.

Tex - will he or won't he? Potential upside but the worry he doesn't know how
to get a kick. Ben Kinnear with a body?

Leon - I was a supporter but I have lost patience. Just has far too many no impact games. Again I could see an argument for another year but he would have to play a lot better a lot more often.

Lokan - versatile but what is he actually good at? Can run a bit, can mark a bit, can move a bit but can't do anything a lot. He could have a goodish career but I just can’t see him as a premiership player.

So there are 8 alternatives and with the 3 dead set monties that makes 11 plus Shaw and McGough who have been mentioned in dispatches but I would prefer to give another year to. Of those 13 about 9 need to go. I just hope we can bloody well get something for them instead of waiting too long like we have with Kinnear, Freeza, Rupe, Molloy, Steiner etc etc etc. That alone is a good argument to take an offer while it is on the table for these guys. Essendon trade at a players peak. We wait and see how good they can get before we offload the deadwood. We must get better at judging the potential of what we have.

The rest should be kept subject to very good deals.

On the brighter side of life, Kinnear won’t play again and McKee won’t fill in for a better equipped circus midget in the ruck. Now just tell me Williams has packed his bags.

PS, I don't believe you nic.

Count me in.

I'm not saying he's untradeable, but for what we'd get for him he is definately worth persisting with.

That about sums my thoughts up. I'm a big fan of McGough, but realise he has limitations. I would rather persist with him a little longer, see him over his injuries and see if he can improve his kicking a bit.

It can be done. See Johnno and Licka for example.
