Is it too early to start claiming we have the best talls in the afl? Quality and quantity.
Not a big stretch here at all.
Sydney's foreign legion a chance.
GWS and to a lesser extent GCS have the high profile up and coming kids.

You have a great balance of developed and developing talls. Covered for a decade or more.
Got attacked on our board for suggesting Lycett. Sinclair and particularly McInnes would be great targets
for trade with our "potential superstar" young outside mids from the West. Resisting the temptation to
revisit it with our smarties who think everything non Victorian is inferior.
Your mids may have been a bit light on, but went a long way to fixing that through Draft/Trade.

New blood in the coaching box and now your future looking very bright. Good luck for season 2014 (except against us)

look i am just saying i didnt see a single thing from him that showed any sort of class one way or another, he doesnt mind putting his head over the ball which is great, other than that i just didnt see anything that separates him from a rookie list type player.

Again im not saying hes a spud, or even that its a mistake, im just saying that hes not there yet, early days.

The thing is, rookie list players are not good enough to play at this stage, let alone get 15 and 17 touches in half a game. The fact he can get that much ball before playing an AFL game and not look completely out of his depth is a great sign. Its not like he has played against poor sides either. I dare say he would show abit more playing against sides like GWS, Melb etc.

On Dom Sheed, I think the other fellas point was he probably wont make the cut for Round 1 at the rate he is going at. Too slight/young/small to really impact in the middle. No rush to push him out there so why do it.

He can grow and play footy at East Perth.

I think he has shown plenty to suggest he can be in the round one team. His stats were better than a few others as well. I think he will be sub.

The other guy basically said he is performing like a rookie listed player.

Yeah i have to agree but he has done pretty well to get 15 and 17 possessions so far in the NAB cup. Hutchings would have to get a game before him.

Some real positives from this match.

- Masten and Scooter taking it up a notch and leading the way as senior players.

- Lycett and Sinclair have really learned a lot from Cox and it is great to see. Lycett has improved a hell of a lot compared to last pre-season where he looked so Vanilla. I really think we can play 3 rucks come round 1 but i think Sinclair will be the one that miss's out. When Cox retires i think having Sinclair, Nic Nat and Lycett in the team is going to have us set for some time.

-I pretty much watched all the lions games on Foxtel over the summer to see what Yeo was like and all though i thought he showed glimpses of talent i thought he had a long way to go. He has definitely put on some size and has been able to take the game on and use his speed with excellent disposal. Our backline will looks pretty good by years end with the Grunt of EMAC, Waters ( IF he gets fit) Brown, Glass & Schofield to go along with the excellent run from halfback with players like Hurn, Yeo and Ellis running through there!

- Picking up Hutchings for cheap was a masterstroke and i really think he has improved his overall game and seems to be able to play down back and up forward for stints without looking out of place. A no thrills sort of player but a player that will get the job done with decent disposal. Saints really dropped the ball on him by delisting him.

- Mcinnes and Mcgovern looking the goods too...not sure if either will get many games this year unless we have injuries but it is good to know we have some decent backups.

- Brown starting to show some confidence which is pleasing as i have a feeling this will be Glass;s last year and we will look good enough down back with Brown, Glass & Schoey leading the way.

Sinclair reminds be of the Babysitter Bandit. I think it's his long neck.

Re: Sheed.

He's playing predominantly inside against bigger bodies and averaging 15 touches for just a tick over half a game (56% game time). He'd probably average about 80-85% game time in the real thing so that'd be about 23/24 touches.

His possession rate is fine.

In this particular role, he's touch and go for round 1 but may be good sub candidate.

I would like Simpson to utilise him more on the outside; if he's going to play regular AFL as a first year player he needs to be played outside as his body isn't ready for that level of physical intensity and it's taking him a while to work into games.

I'll buy into the hype when we produce in the season proper. And not against the Bulldogs in Round 1, but against quality opposition.
I agree, but I think even still the season proper intensity in round 1 will be vastly superior to the Nab challenge so it will be a small litmus test; if we clobber them then we know we are at least on the right track.
Would prefer to wait and see against, for example, Hawthorn, Collingwood or even Richmond (purposely left Sydney out as we don't see them until deep into the season). Freo are a decent side, but those mentioned are probably a better test as no 'derby emotion' is involved.

I've got Hutchings easily ahead of Sheed at the moment.

Sheed still to adjust to the pace, and improve his skills under pressure. I'm confident he will, and hopefully a good run with injury will allow him to start off with East Perth and build some quality form.

And it begins

Not sure what you think is beginning lmach, but i'm happy to give credit to players when they play well. Hopefully he continues to reach his preseason standard for this full season as we will need it if we are to be successful.

On the game itself, i liked the way we seemed to have a player stationed just back of the pack for the quick handball release into space if in trouble. It allowed us to get the ball clear and then spot up targets going forward.

He's been playing at a high standard for the past two years.

And thats where we disagree, however he has been having good impact this pre season
That's just standard for Masten now. You're the only one that can't see it.

No different from Gaff in 2011? Position a little different yes, but I think Simmo will give him a role that suits where he is at. Too good to be wasted playing for EP.

both good points above..it is exciting to see whats unfolding at the NAB after last years glitch - but next week against Freo should give us our first real glimpse at the complete 'new package'. scores aside, just be interesting to watch this team do its business, with the coaching, players roles and the interchange. a win would be cool but not essential. but yes, cant wait to see them against Collingwood or Hawthorn especially. thats the reality right there!-not so much overheated derbies. i dream of beating collingwood this year, convincingly. and belting essendon all over the park. thats all...ok, and monstering the Roos, just coz its fun, and Brad provides us with so much entertainment.
