im saying that combo could work. But allen for that size and this stage of his career has a long way to go before he can be an AFL quality AFL full forward. Size and Height is only overrated if you cant kick (eg butcher and casbolt)
The top 20 goal kickers represent an even spread. Point being, talent beats height. McGovern and Darling is a great combo, in fact more thought should be directed to ground level players.

McGovern does and Lycett is a better forward than ruck. Honestly, WC have so many options. Most clubs don't even have a tall as good as Darling.

More important is our midfield. We still need some young dynamic stoppage beasts. Sheed looks good, but you want him getting free from stoppages to use his kicking.
Yeh I'm not going to argue with you, was just talking specifically about those 3. Looking forward to seeing what Lycett can do when/if fit.

but do you want to take one of the most promising key defenders from defence and then put him in the forward line. The only way i can see that happening is if barrass breaksinto the side and does well. Yes i agree about the ground level players. we have been so hit and miss with our small ground level players. Tho i rekon our best chance of getting one is luring one of the gun wa boys back home.

Was at the game. Oval looked nice.

McInnes did plenty.
Barass looked good as a KPD.
Bennell looked much better forward than back.
Lamb showed some nice signs.
Yeo ran hard. Hard. He's fit and ready to go this year.
Adamson was a stand out. Upgrade please.

Other than that they mostly allowed Adelaide to run it through the middle. Chasing was too hard.
Web doesn't work when not everyone is on the same page and on such a small ground.

Don't take too much from it other than Bennell looked good forward and Adamson stood up.

We will beat Gold Coast by one million next week as they will bring a very undermanned side over.

Sure, I would be fine too. Our defence works well smaller and we have a few KPD.

Agree with most of this. Bennell up forward was definitely a good thing - has always had talent but wasn't accountable enough to play in the backline. Would like to see him competing against Hill for selection.

Barass still has a long way to go but showed some good signs, especially given he's playing in one of the more difficult positions for a young player. Hopefully he manages to get some decent game time this year considering we've got a few healthy options atm.

Possibly a bit of sponsor bias but I thought Cole was impressive despite not getting his hands on it much - showed plenty of hunger for the contest and nice poise.

Have to say I was disappointed with Yeo - very underwhelming at the stoppages. No doubt he'll have much better days than today though, especially with Naita providing silver service.

so whats everyones side for the suns in a week and a half.

my side.

FB Hurn Mackenzie Schofield
HB Shepherd Mcgovern wellingham
C Jetta Priddis Gaff
HF Lecras Darling duggan
FF Hill Kennedy Lycett
R Naitanui Shuey Yeo
I brown Bennell butler nelson Hutchings Mcginnity Mcinnis partington Lamb barrass and cole.
Three to be cut

will most likley give cripps, redden and sheed another week off.
I really dont want to see mcginnity but better him playing in the nab cup than in the regular season.

true but who replaces that intercept defender. Shep could but he isnt as impossing or as good as gov. Emacs getting there but he isnt anywhere as good as gov in that role. Barrass is the only one in the current list that is a like for like replacement. Btw i thought played well today.

He's a senior premership player that had 3 possessions against a undermanned Adelaide outfit.......No i won't be a easy tiger........
You're new here. We all melted hard once, but seriously dude, its a NAB challenge game and we played kids. Wait until we have an actual midfield to be critical.

I agree. Maybe should of played McInnes in the GF last year as he might of got a goal

True, but i'd guarantee everyone of our players got more touches in last years GF than any Freo player did, so we have to take the good with the bad i guess. ;)

Yep but Sinclair is more easily replaceable and Jetta was targeted as part of a premiership push.

Straight swap was about right given we didn't have the picks to satisfy Sydney and there are obvious risks in trying to work out a more complex deal or bargain hard at the table.

I'd be really surprised if we don't have Gaff on one wing and Jetta on the other come Round 1, injury permitting.
I thought that a ruck was Sydney's most pressing need, even before a half back so to not make them pay through the nose for him got under my skin.

West Coast would have gotten him in the PSD, Sydney offloaded the guy was leaving anyway for exactly what they needed.

I'd have preferred West Coast kept Sinclair, Sydney suffered and dropped out of the top four.

Yeah Cole and Nelson are similar and did some nice things. Had it hard with the ball coming in the way it did.

Yeo was average but I was watching him. He was running hard to get back and threw himself at a few packs. Showed more than alot of them.

It's over a week and a half away but I don't think Lycett will play.

Giles and NN to get limited minutes. Brown needs more time. Mcinnes should play. Rest Sheppard and Hill.

I Hutchings, Cole, Mcinnes, Adamson, McGinnity, Brown, Barrass, Lamb

Yeo, Sheppard, Butler, Hill and Ellis to be rested.

I think the biggest thing to take out of this game was the move of Bennell to the forward line. He showed a bit as a crumbling forward, which is exactly what we don't have at the moment, as Hill and Lecras both play more as traditional forwards and Cripps put on pressure and gets a lot running towards the goals into space.

Other than that the positives for me were McInnes, Adamson, Nelson and no major injuries

I'm not full bore on exactly what happened but it wouldn't surprise if Sinclair wanted more game time and the opportunity was too good to pass up once Sydney floated his name around in the Jetta deal.

Too late to do anything about it now but we got the player we wanted and we have a ready-made replacement. Don't think we ever want to be a club that threatens to let a targeted player walk into the PSD by being difficult at the trade table.

Not to mention that sinclair alway had heat coming from Lycett and it was known that a fully fit lycett would get in the side over sinclair. Frankly the pro's outweighed the cons and thats why he jumped ship.

I thought I heard that Sinclair was very reluctant to leave

Eagles try to not burn bridges at the trade table and look to be fair. arseh*le clubs like port look to screw over other teams ( ebert trade) but they got hit by the karma bus re essendon suspensions and hopefully again when ah chees contract is up

I would like to see parti time and cole get another run with a full side. Then we can actually judge how progressed their at this moment in time. Cole was impressive early on. I hope he gets a bit of game time ( maybe bench hurn or wellingham after half time).

Hurn, Schofield and Jetta are the only guys I would play in all three. Which is probs why Jetta n Hurn got limited match time.

Give these kids a run, so we can rest a few others and have a near full side in the third game

The web works with 12ish people anyone think tom lamb could be bought in and just play a wild card role?

hurn didnt play today tho, I rekon next week might be the closest side to our b22 and v essendon more kids will play (not as much as today tho).

will still struggle to be best 22, unless he sets the wafl on fire for a few weeks.
