If today was any guide (it wasn't ) then priddis is getting better as he gets older. He was bordering on dynamic early
Fairs fair tho' he has been very good since he got better players around him. His first thought now is handball and he is doing it quicker and hence not getting tackled. When we lacked mids he was just too slow and got caught.

Dunno if this has been spoken about in here but I noticed both teams doing the double switch out of the backline, wont be long and we'll be seeing the triple switch. I swear the AFL needs to introduce a rule that if you go backwards its play on in your back half to stop this boring sideways and backwards movement.

Yep, more rule changes. The more, the better.

Young Dugg put on a bit of size..

gaffs put on some size over the last two preseasons. Two years ago he still had a body of a first year player and now looks quite built for an outside player.

I predict by round 5 he has sprained his pointing finger with a generous dose of Repetitive Strain Injury!

I think you underestimate the amount of work Goddard puts into his pointing finger. At least 45 a day over the preseason, so it is in tip top shape to handle the rigours of a full season.

Im impressed with how well it looked like the game was run out. Ive seen games where its only late 20s and guys are cooked by half time. Yesterday was horrible for footy but it wasn't so noticeable. Maybe different watching on tv to being there though

With freaks like gaff who run all day and guys like emac and kennedy not needing to come off i imagine the rotations they would use go to the mids

Going off time on ground stats from last night, looks right!

Maybe the rucks will still be rotated heavily too, Nic and Lycett only played around 60% game time each. Which isn't much at all - only ~10% of time on the field together is hardly anything! But surely they'll be on the field a bit more when the weather cools down during the season proper.

did gov do much rucking. I thought i saw him at a center bounce.

We hit the 100 point in the third, eased up noticeably after that. To be expected with the heat

See the bit where he did a little shimmy and wrong-footed Goddard? Oh how the lols were had.

How about Goddard looking for the cheapest of cheap stats. A player takes a mark on the 50m and he sulks around behind him demanding the handball so he can pick up a soft possession and shot on goal. Just as he gets it Nelson nails him in a ball and all tackle and Goddard goes for holding the ball.

Was one of the best highlights of the game. A kid in his second year read Goddard like a book, owned and then embarrassed him.:D

It's only a matter of time before a rule is enforced stating that receiving a kick inside defensive 50 from a teammate is play on...

You do realise banning this would make it even more of a flood and less attractive. If teams knew the opposition would be forced to kick long to a contest, they simply put enough players for a token effort at the ball carrier and flood the space a kick down field.

I think the switch (double switch) is a great part of our game. Tires the players and opens up a lot of space. You get to see some great end to end goals as a result of the switch.

Regarding yesterday's game - it was a good performance that ticked the boxes.

We are starting to gather a good deal of depth in this side now all across the ground - that is what teams that go deep in seasons tend to do.

Most pleasing aspect for mine was the rotations 85 to 133 and not being overrun in the last quarter - almost 50 less rotations is massive in today's football.

Essendon were dire however.

Is it correct that we were the only team that went through all NAB games doing less than 90 rotations?

Saw him contest once in the last quarter. Jumped too early and completely missed the ball, which led to forward entry for the Bombers.

Best to keep him away from the ruck in my opinion (plus he's far too valuable to be risked gaining an injury there anyway).

Just saw photos of the recovery session. Nelson is a very big boy for a kid in his second pre season

Just re-watched the end of the last quarter and although I hate to agree with commentators (thought yesterday's were quite good) one of them talked about the impressiveness of our defender's disposal efficiency. All above 80%, and all had plenty of kicks. I have to agree with them with that being pretty impressive regardless of the opposition we played against. Still think our ability to get another crack at a GF will be a lot about stopping the ball coming in across half back and then transitioning effectively in to attack. Well that and Nic Nat and our mids dominating centre clearances a lot of the time.

Exhibit A

At some point people will learn to look past stats and watch a game with their eyes to gauge the impact players have
I thought he was our most influential player by far in the first half, those first few centre square ruck contests where he tapped ball straight to Shuey/Priddis etc really set the tone for the game.
