This is one thing I never understand. How many forwards kick a bag on Livo. He is very accountable. This year when he played I thought he had stepped up quite a fair bit. He can't kick to save himself but he keeps his opponent pretty quiet. He will never be a champion but I think there can always be a place in the backline for a player with as much effort as him. He tries his guts out and does a servicible job on his opponent. I'd love to see how he goes on an oppositions third best forward. He reminds me a lot of Prestigiacomo. I admit to being a big fan of Livo simply for the fact he tries so hard. He has been dealt with some cruel injuries that have effected his ability but he never gives up. Livo gets my thumbs up. :)
Agree..........he gets a bad wrap. Sure, he's not a skillful player, but he is there to stop his man, not to get 20 possession a match. I for one would be happy for him to be playing on the 2nd or 3rd opposition tall.

Personally, I think Thornton should be at FB, with Livo playing in a BP and Saddington at CHB initially.

I would really like to see Davies play pretty much 4 quarters of footy for every pre-season game...

He dominates VFL and he has done good things in the senior ranks, only to be benched again which ruins his momentum.

Interestingly I read Terry Daniher believes Justin Davies is one of the futures of Carlton, so that means that we are looking at him to be a good player and not someone we delist at the end of this coming season.

Justin Davies is one of many players I will be interested in.

If Davies is in our best team, then we are in a lot of trouble. He tries hard, but is very inconsistent and has average skills at best.

Plenty of guys have dominated in the VFL, but are not up to it at AFL standard..........Bowyer, Culpit, Doering, Backwell, Lock spring to mind.

You cant not be serious. IMO and many others he is not up to AFL standard. He has been around the traps long enough to make an impression. How many more seasons do we have to retain this hack??

I, just like the next person, thinks his times up - especially after that dismal display when he got sent off from one of the VFL finals last season.

The fact is however, he is still on our list.

You mention Bowyer, Culpit, Doering, Backwell etc. have any of them ever won a game for Carlton like Davies did against Collingwood a couple of seasons ago?

This will surely be Davies last chance... but gee, he has done a lot more promosing things than any of those names mentioned.

The pre-season cup will be the perfect chance for him to gather a lot of possesions and do something constructive. If he fails, he will have another dominating year in the VFL and will be delisted.

I wasn't aware that 1 good quarter of footy and 30+ medicore games resembled that of a player with talent. Maybe if he could put it together for more than 2 quarters you would have an argument.

If given full game time I think you would find four miserable quarters instead of 15 miserable minutes. No prospect at all infortunately.

So which is it..............you think his time is up or you want him to play?

He has had his chances already. 2006 will be his 5th season at the club, and he has managed 41 games and shown no improvement in his disposal in that time. IMO guys like Russell, Blackwell, Simpson, Walker, Murphy, Bentick & Betts should be a priority above Davies for game time in the upcoming NAB Cup.

Apart from the injured or players on modified preseason programs like Fevola and Waite, the only guys I would rest from the "early" preseason games would be: Kouta & French. But if we make the last two then I would introduce both as preperation for round1.

Don't forget people our guys need all the run they can get. Until such a time where we start consitently winning football games (play finals again), every run is essential.

I was surprised he even stayed on the list... I thought his time is up. Terry Daniher said he is a future of Carlton, so if an assistant coach says that Justin Davies must be doing good things at pre-season training.

Anyone who is on our list I want to see succeed.

Justin Davies has talent, Karl Norman had talent.

Ian Prendergast has talent... as an athlete.

The point I'm trying to make, is play him 4 quarters, every game in the pre-season competitions. If he performs miserably for four quarters, he can expect a year in the VFL. If he performs well, he can expect a start in the home and away season.

This is his last chance.

I think Davies can still make it. He has good ball winning abilities and played many good games in the 2s. He was really hitting form when he got wiped out for striking. He was still a little slight to play as an onballer, his best position, in the AFL but hopefully with a good preseason and some more muscle he could develop into a good player for us.

Please stop naming Saddington at CHB/FB.

Give him a run in the middle or on the wing in the Wiz cup. He'll show you what he's made of. I really wish he hadn't left the Bloods.

Agree more BP or HB for mine also. I see him picking up the third tall and running off, ala Teague's role this year. Teague will probably be moving half back.

Carrazzo Livingston(gets 1st crack) Saddington
Teague Thornton Lappin

CHB isn't exactly a solid position in the modern game.

Ryan Jackson and Jesse Smith need to play in the midfield along with Bentick, Russell, Simpson, Murphy and Walker. Blackwell isn't far off either. A rotation of these guys with Stevens, Carrazzo, Koutoufides and Scotland would be ideal.

Didnt Davies have some personal probs as well ?
The guy has looked llike a late developer, physically and maybe even mentally (emotionally), but I think he has the talent. There are often players who dont emerge immediately however can come on to become decent players I thingk davies is one of these, didn't we let go of williams.

Not only did he have personal problems, but he was also keeping the wrong company. Fortunately the players in question have been weeded out of the club, so hopefully he will be able to focus better on football.

Lot of talk floating around about ball carriers. Is Davies one of these, if so he must be kept as we are lacking.

meduimSizered: Good to hear carlton has done some spring cleaning this needs a thread.
