I can't remember how many players we can use in round 2 for NAB cup. Is is 26 or 29? Someone will know.

Tambling
Moran
Reilly
Tippett
Thompson
Sloane
Jaensch
Doughty
Walker
Symes
Davis
Johncock
Maric
Knights
Otten
Petrenko
Jacobs
Rutten
Douglas
Stevens
Dangerfield
Smith
Mckernan
Martin
Callinan
Porps
Henderson

There's 27 players. If it is 26 players that we can have I'd eliminate a ruckman for team balance. Probably Maric because we know what he can do.

If it's 29 I'd add 2 more (or 3 if Maric doesn't play), from the following list;
Gunston
Cook
Talia
L.Thompson
Sellar

On balance it should probably be Cook because it's a tall side, but I'd rather sort who the next in line defender would be should one of our tall defenders go down before round 1. We wouldn't have any SANFL to go by. Is it Talia, Thompson or Sellar?
Plus it would be good to have another look at Gunna, although in reality it would be good for him to spend another yeah in SANFL. Although it would be good for his benefit to taste a bit more AFL footy.

I've included Knights for VB, but will hold off on Vince and Mackay.

Pretty good side. Especially with Mckernan and Smith impressing so far this preseason.

It's 26 players - and I'd be taking our team from the Port Adelaide game as the baseline. Only a couple of additions from the Melbourne game would be likely, with Johncock heading the list. Knights should be back too, a direct replacement for VB.

It will be interesting to see which 2 ruckmen get the nod for R2. It's going to be a massive kick in the guts for the player who misses out, as they'll know for sure that they're #3 in the pecking order and unlikely to see much AFL footy in 2011 unless injuries intervene.

On that 1st part, it's 25 (I'm pretty sure) if we go through to the 2nd round (18+6+1), it's unlimited if we're in the country though isn't it? (but we'd limit ourselves to 30-35 wouldn't we?)

and on that 2nd part, completely agree, I hope we don't make the grand final, at least give us the oppurtunity for just 1 week to be able to play all 3 ruckman without hindering our lineup too much (then again, Moran as the Sub could work)

I think we need that mobile ruckman though instead of 2 lumbering players. Hence why I think Moran will go in, and whoever is better on the training park inbetween Maric and Jacobs will be the other.

8 on the bench for teams in the MMC - fairly sure it's 6+2, though it might be 7+1. Unlimited benches for the bush games, but it's very rare for a team to use more than 30 players - using too many players just results in too few getting enough game time to be useful.

If one of Rutten/Davis/Stevens goes down prior to R1, I would have Sellar way, way ahead of the other 2 in the pecking order.

Love to see the other guys in further NAB action but at this stage I'd be far more nervous seeing those guys listed at FB/BP.

I knew you'd know Vader :thumbsu:.

In that case:

FB Johncock Rutten Stevens
HB Doughty Davis Martin
C Tambling Thompson Smith
HF Knights Walker Henderson
FF Porps Tippett Callinan
1R Jacobs Otten Dangerfield
Int Mckernan Moran Douglas Reilly Sloane Jaensch (Petrenko Symes)

Petrenko and Symes are my subs. Doughty and Jaensch to get subbed off after about a half of footy unless someone gets injured. Alternatively if Knights isn't ready for a full length game (he missed most of internal trial and games last week) he can be subbed off for symes and jaensch can play a full game.

Team balance would suggest having one tall as a sub as there's a bit of tall timber in the side, but in reality Mckernan, Jacobs and Moran all need a lot of game time. Unlikely but I'd rest Maric because we know what he can deliver. Doesn't give him a great preparation though.

Keen to give Smith a full game, but in reality he'll probably be a sub or be subbed off. Couldn't find room for the likes of Sellar, Talia and L.Thompson, but it would probably be wise to trial some of these guys. It's just too hard to fit everyone in. Set for a good season if this problem continues ;).

We need 2 of the 3 pool runner-ups to finish with a lower percentage than ours (152%). We're actually in a pretty good position, thanks to the way the boys belted Port. However, we're still dependent upon the outcome of other games if we're to progress.

If we happen to miss out on a lucky loser spot, does anyone know the scenario yet?

Port play Fremantle at Thebarton oval, so i guess it will be country Victorian or Alice Springs again.

How far off are Vince and McKay?
I have a feeling they are close to being ok to play as well.
If they come in who drops out?

They were both training yesterday with the main group in the match drills, but in the real tough running session, they didnt participate. This suggests they are very close. Id say that both would be close to available for our game next weekend, if not the weekend after.

I think unfortunately for Brodie Smith, he would probably come out for Mackay. As for Vince, I dont know.... probably VB actually with his hammy. Knights will also need to come in - maybe for someone like Jaensch or Hendo. I would say Jaensch is more likely to miss. He also spent time in the injured group yesterday so it might be an easy swap.

You'd have to think we're through to the quarters now. Should be a pretty decent side we field as well. Can't wait to see a couple more of our prime movers out there!

Slight concern that VB's frail, gout-ridden body has let him down again. I'm already wondering if we've made a mistake overlooking the more durable Christopher Knights.

Dunno about that. Essendon have a ridiculous percentage so even if they lose to St. Kilda, they'll still be a lucky loser. And it's very possible that the GWS games will result in GC or Sydney being another lucky loser.

Looks like we're off to the Alice.

One of the two local teams is expected to play at Thebarton Oval next weekend with the other jetting out to Alice Springs, depending on how other matches fall.

you are kidding right? Knights is equally as injury riddled as VB if you are making a durability comparison. In addition to this Knights would never be in contention to be captain. He is well behind S Thompson, Rutten, Vanberlo and even Doughty
