Hard to say exactly, but I'll have a crack;

B: Blight, N.Brown, Maxwell
HB: Shaw, Reid, Toovey
C: Goldsack, Pendlebury, Didak
HF: Medhurst, L.Brown, Dawes
F: Davis, Anthony, MaCaffer
Foll: Jolly, Ball, Swan
Int: (6?) Thomas, Beams, Sidebottom, O'Brien, Wellingham, Wood.

Left out for "rest"; O'Bree, Lockyer, Presti, Fraser, McCarthy, Rusling, Cloke.

Unlucky; McCarthy, Blair, Cook, Barham, Johnson, Buckley.

Others; Rounds, Sinclair, J.Thomas, Corrie, Cook.

May have missed some, but I would be resting most of our "older" players, and anyone who has had post/pre season problems.

One thing I noticed is that in picking 24 players, I changed the side several times as we have some depth for the first time in a long time.

I'm pretty sure you can play as many rookies as you want. I might be wrong.

The Bulldogs were playing a few rookies at a NAB Cup game I went to in 2009.

I think there is a limit on the number of rookies in the NAB Cup, but once knocked out you can play as many as you like.

I wouldn't take the risk of playing a rookie against Stkilda, he would be embarrassed, leave them till the next week.

StKilda will be like a rabid dog in the first game, and I don't want to see us get thumped because we are playing too many first gamers.

Got the general structure right.

I have a feeling we have done this before somehow :p

But the general structure I would go with would be something like as follows:

Week 1:
F: Paul Medhurst Jack Anthony Leon Davis
HF: Josh Fraser Travis Cloke Alan Didak
CEN: Dale Thomas Luke Ball Scott Pendlebury
HB: Nick Maxwell Ben Reid Harry O'Brien
B: Heath Shaw Nathan Brown Tyson Goldsack
FOLL: Darren Jolly Shane O'Bree Dane Swan
BENCH: Cameron Wood Dayne Beams Steele Sidebottom

Week 2:
F: Sean Rusling Jack Anthony Leon Davis
HF: Paul Medhurst Travis Cloke Alan Didak
CEN: John McCarthy Dale Thomas Jaxson Barham
HB: Nick Maxwell Ben Reid Harry O'Brien
B: Heath Shaw Nathan Brown Alan Toovey
FOLL: Darren Jolly Scott Pendlebury Luke Ball
BENCH: Josh Fraser Brent Macaffer Dane Swan Sharrod Wellingham

Previously I included detailed reasoning but will include that at some point closer to the actual preseason comp because I'm sure this will be a weekly discussion topic.

I think Shae will be slowly introduced, probably thru the VFL reserves. Just to give him a feel for things.

I very much doubt he is ready for nAb Cup action just yet.

is mcnamara eligible to play

Yes

I agree to a point. If we're winning there no hope in the world he'll play but if we can knocked out and have a play a game in the back of Bourke then why not give him a crack? Those kind of games where you're not competing for money/honour should be used for trying things out and giving those that need it extra fitness.

Very much doubt the knees of Fraser and Cloke will be ready for Rd 1 NAB Cup. If they are available mid Feb, they will need a game or 2 for the VFL team first. Jolly and Wood will shoulder the ruck duties. Dawes will get a chance at CHF, Reid and Brown will take the key defensive posts. Would like to see Wellingham played as a small defender against the Saints, even on a Milne or Schneider. Would add some pace and skill to our defence, and might teach him some defensive and hardness traits he is currently lacking.

We don't have a VFL reserves team, but I agree, he will not get a showing during the NAB cup (or the season proper)

I know it is exciting to have a true American on our list, but there are footballers that are higher in the queue to play.

dawes is the key here.. i really hope for don't have to use l brown as a chf. i hope dawes takes 10 steps forward and becomes a really good player.
Also want to see reid play some good matches.

Oh yeah. I was thinking of when we were aligned with Willy.

I think Shae is a pretty (read very) confident sort of athlete and he rates his own ability. I'd chuck him in the deep end early to give him a reality check.
Who knows he may fit right in but.......I doubt it.

I think it will look something like this (note, I wished it would something a little different, but MM doesn't usually play kids on a whim.)

B: O'Brien N Brown Toovey
HB: Maxwell Reid Shaw
C: Thomas Ball Sidebottom
HF: Macaffer Dawes Didak
F: Medhurst Anthony Davis
Fol: Jolly Pendles Beams

Int (6): Wood McCarthy Goldsack O'Bree Wellingham Cook

Rest: Fraser, Cloke, Lockyer, Presti.
