with the nab starting in a week. i wanted to know everybodys thoughts on what players you want to see. what way we should go in the first game (i would play every fit player in the 2 teams). would you play kids or our best 22. also anyone got any info on injurys, whos flying or whos struggling

I think Mark Austin will be one the MC are looking to string a few games together in the pre season.

Agree with Lucas and Yarran needing a good hit out and hopefully Watson can show he is ready to step in if required this year.

Just a shame Hendo is injured as I would have loved him to have a solid pre season and then hit round 1 with a vengance.

Matt Watson
Brock McLean
Jeremy Laidler
Andrew Collins
Rhys O'Keefe
Mark Austin
Luke Mitchell
Nick Duigan
Ed Curnow
Levi Casboult
Zach Tuohy
Peter Labi

Would like to see:

Aussie
Duigan
Curnow
Gibbs in the midfield

Happy to play more youngsters, Guys like Judd, Waite etc don't really need much match practise.

The more early games they get into guys like Watson when it doesn't matter the sooner they'll benefit the team during the serious stuff.

I'd like to see something like this...

B: Nick Duigan, Matthew Watson, Jeremy Laidler
HB: Rhys O'Keeffe, Mark Austin, Chris Yarran
C: Kane Lucas, Brock McLean, Dennis Armfield
Foll: Robert Warnock, Bryce Gibbs, Mitch Robinson
HF: Andy Collins, Jarrad Waite, Simon White
F: Shaun Hampson, Andrew Walker, Jeffery Garlett
I/C: David Ellard, Wayde Twomey, Marcus Davies, Zach Tuohy, Paul Bower, Ed Curnow, Jaryd Cachia, Levi Casboult

Duigan, Casboult, Cachia, Mclean, White, Watson, Collins, Laidler, O'Keefe, Touhy, Walker, Gibbs, Murphy, Lucas, MCarthy (injured?), Kerr, Jamison, Mitchell, Robinson, Curnow and Dare.

B: White Jamison Watson
HB: Duigan Austin Touhy
C: Curnow Mclean Walker
HF: Yarran Casboult Collins
F: Mitchell Waite Kerr
OB: Warnock Murphy Gibbs
IC: Cachia, Laidler, O'Keefe, Lucas, Robinson, Dare

Lucas. Hendo the other so spewing on that. The Rookie Group in general I suppose. Looks like I'll need a Canadian Canoe to get there tomorrow so maybe it won't even be happening.

You won't be going anywhere tomorrow.

You've got a mountain of laundry to do :p

I have always believed it should be matches for the players that need fitness built up and those that are on the fringe that need a chance to show if they will be good enough once the real stuff starts.

Veterans only need a token appearance to blow out the cobwebs.

I really don't think the club need to risk playing guys like Waite, Gibbs, Murphy, JR, Simpson, Betts and a few others. Can see why they'll play Judd, given he hasn't played any part in the two intra clubs so far.

Would be great to see guys like Cachia, Curnow, Kerr, Casboult, Austin (if fit), Duigan and Lucas really be given a chance to show what they can do. Our focus should be squarely on round 1, and taking on the Tigers at the 'G.

When was this revealed? I thought they already ruled him out of the first round at the least?

I think what HBF meant to say was he won't be playing the NAB cup matches. I don't know where you heard that he won't play round one. Someones pulling your leg

Looks to me as if HBF was saying that Judd will be playing in the first round of the NAB cup...
And that's the round one I'm talking about, not the season proper :p

Does anyone here know (or have a good idea) of what your list strategy will be on Saturday? As I understand it you can make as many changes as you like between games 1 (Us) and 3 (Collingwood). What changes do you think we'll see between the two lineups?

Your guess is as good as ours.

It's more than likely that there will be plenty of changes - we'll use as many players as we possibly can in order to ensure that we limit the possibility of injuries.

Of course, between injuries and resting players we won't be able to completely change our line up from one game to the next so there will be some overlap.

There are 2 ways we could approach this -
1) Have a mixture of experience and untried youth in both games
2) Field a stronger team in one game and a weaker one in the other.

The first option is far more likely IMO, but the 2nd is a possibility. If we go for the 2nd option, expect the kids to be played against Collingwood and a more experienced team to play Richmond.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to do it the other way around? Play the 'inexperienced' side against the Tigers (younger and inexperienced themselves) and the experienced against the Pies. That way you'd get a more even hit out for both sets of players. I'm assuming you'll be focussing on the season here, rather than the NAB Cup. Also has the advantage of giving away less information for round 1.

Selective quoting, much?

Very selective J ;)

While Carlton Assistant Coach John Barker confirmed today that Judd would not be playing for the Blues the Carlton Captain will coach Carlton’s Legends/Celebrity Team in the break between games on Saturday night.

“I am looking forward to giving Andy Lee some tips on his goalkicking after hearing about his performances in recent charity football games,” Judd said while discussing selection of the team at Visy Park today.

We may want to give as little away as possible.

No offense to the Tigers, but Collingwood are far more of a threat to us and our push up the ladder than the Tigers. Not saying we're premiership contenders but we'd be more confident of beating the Tigers with a plan B, C & D than Collingwood.
