Young Ablett on move
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Geelong Advertiser Monday September 2nd

Young Ablett on move - Scott Morton
****
Geelong Falcons coach Damien Christensen is confident Nathan Ablett will line up for the Falcons next year.

Christensen said the youngest Ablett son had been training with the Falcons for the past month and had fitted in well.

"I'm confident he'll be down playing with us next year," he said.

"I think he's made the commitment.

"I think he's enjoyed training and coming here. You have to remember he was born in December so he's only a couple of weeks off being under-16, which is the thing that's held him back this year."

Ablett has been content this year to play with Modewarre in the Bellarine Football League and has shown that he has inherited the same uncanny footballing ability of his father and older brother Gary.

He turns 17 in December and will be eligible for the 2003 draft but Geelong has so far been tightlipped about the possibility of him joining his older brother under the father/son rule.

Recent changes mean that in 2003 only one player can be picked up by the Cats under the rule, which means Geelong may have to choose between Ablett and Mark Blake, son of former Geelong ruckman Rod Blake.

For Ablett to have any chance of being drafted in 2003 he needs to play in the under-18 TAC Cup competition to prove himself to the Cats' draft selectors.

Ah yes well it defenately sounds like there is very exciting times ahead for Geelong supporters with both Ablett's in the same side in a couple of years time, making Skilled Stadium "The Place To Be!"

Yes, we have a very exciting load of youth around the club, and each year it grows. Great to see Geelong blooding the young guns, and picking them up, because in a couple of years, we wil be one all mighty force!!:D

Go Cats!!:)

I hope we can get Nathan Ablett under father-son rule at Geelong if he's good enough, as it would be great to see both Abletts playing in the same team. :)

Go Cats!!

From what I have heard, Nathan is as good, maybe even better than Gary Jrn. It's gonna be a difficult choise for the Cats, when they are only allowed to chose one out of Nathan Ablett & Mark Blake under the father-son rule per draft.

I think Geelong will be looking at all the ways to get both, whether it's asking one to skip the draft, and nominate in the following draft, or whether the AFL may let them use the following year's pick in advance.

But anyway, I am confiedent that we'll get them both!!

Go Cats!!:)
