Seriously, surprised there isn't a thread about this already.

6 weeks ago we were shot, Bally had done his knee, the club apparently was in turmoil and we'd just been beaten by 10 goals by those weak cheating pricks.

Fast forward 6 weeks......

And we are on fire, the coaching staff has done a remarkable job, but really the buck stops, well with Bucks.

His preparation for games must be meticulous, and his game day moves have been nothing short of genius.

That press conference he did after the Carlton game when he gave Mick nothing but compliments turned the season around.

And tonight Daisy played for his coach, it is almost complete.

IN BUCKS WE TRUST.:thumbsu::D

I honestly thought it was being kept quiet...even the Media have nothing negative to say about Bucks??? Not a word?

Not only nothing negative, but The Age put him in the "top 50" of the important in AFL.

Agree with everything Matty has said. My admiration for Bucks has gone up even further (if thats even possible) since the Carlton loss.

I'll leave this here

He's doing a great job, for sure, but seriously only complete nuffies would have been calling for his head after a couple of rounds. We're tapering toward the end of the season, adapting to a new gameplan, and people think he can't coach because we lose to Hawthorn and Carlton in a 3-game-stretch?

People need to get some freakin' perspective.

The team is playing for him.

He looks calm in the box.

He makes good moves at the right times on the field.

He has made the transition from an overly strict boundary game plan to a more flexible, imaginative one.

And he has done all this in a short time and with an injury ravaged list, and as a result is overseeing the development of many youngsters on our list.

And also Bucks is looking like he's reasonably relaxed and enjoying himself, which was possibly a lot of people's major concern in that he'd be too tense and obsessive and take the all the fun out of it - and would 'lose' the players.

The way he has handled MM's comments etc has been a blessing for his public perception, so that many haters now have a new respect for him.

Still, there's lots of challenges yet to come, but it's a perfect start to his hopefully very long and successful coaching career.

Great work Bucks :)

I knew bucks would be a good coach when i heard/saw him commentating. Seriously smart guy.

However, his biggest strength has been his willingness to learn. If you read his book, this may have been a weakness early in his career as he was so damn talented.

Also great he is sticking it up opposition supporters who said he would fail due to the false figjam tag.

Yeah Bucks is superb. Media savvy, great coaching moves and a relentless pursuer of perfection. And the best thing is, he knows he'll never find it so will just keep working and working. Also, he's nothing but positive. In every interview he admits that a player or the team might not be at their best but then points out the positives. Love it.

I think he's done a good job to even out the hierarchy too. If there was one. I get a sense that he's really talking up the chances of anyone getting a game in the seniors. This was before our injury concerns even and he's said publicly that Tarrant, etc, would have to push Keeffe out by proving themselves indicating that he doesn't have favourites. This is good for competition for spots and keeps everyone pushing themselves.

Don't want to derail but should some credit go to Harvery? Can the bloke coach? Because the emphasis on giving more midfield time to blokes like Blair, Sidebottom and Beams he flagged even before Ball went down and they have stoop up.

I don't think it turned our season around. A press conference didn't turn a season around. And we weren't shot 6 weeks ago to anyone but the media.

All Bucks has done is not buy into the bullshit that the media goes through (and people on this forum) over-sensationalising down times, and then appointing a hero in the good times....

Bucks has been very good all the way through.

Has handled himself beautifully.

Everyone has nailed it with every post in this thread.

Where are all the "haters" now, to talk about how certain players were "unhappy" with the coach, the "eyeballing", "not playing for him" etc?

Composed, cool and he seems to have the faith of the players. I think him being able to make big decisions when necessary will keep going, and the fact that he seems to be getting better football from buckley, sinkers is doing quite well, o'keefe turned a corner (poor injury for him), Steele and Beams have taken a step to the next level, and with our injuries we are still 7-2. That's class!

There was never any doubt in my mind that he will be a successful coach. Champion on the field and will be a champion off the field. Bucks will coach us to multiple flags, I guarantee it!

Jolly's comments in The Age were very good too, praising Bucks for trying his best to be a good coach.

I have so much love for Bucks right now!:thumbsu:

I don't think it turned our season around. A press conference didn't turn a season around. And we weren't shot 6 weeks ago to anyone but the media.
I think it was a turning point, maybe not a season definer, but it defintely set a tone that Bucks was not going to worry about anything outside of the club, and that the new coach was buying into the Nick Maxwell leadership plan of "if you're outside the club we don't care about you".

I think it was a turning point, and example that led us to galvanise as a playing group, and start to build towards being the team we saw last night.

As some have said, credit also has to go to the others in the box with Bucks.

Robert Harvey was given a tough job, to take over from Mick's right hand man, Neeld, as midfield coach, and with Bally going down it got tougher, yet the midfield has excelled under Harves.

We have the best defensive coach in football, Ben Hart, and there's no doubt he helped us win last night, he would have had a great insight into the Crows gameplan and weaknesses, they won't be beating us for a while.

And then there's Rodney Eade, over seeing the whole thing, and what a bonus it must be for any of the young coaches to only have to turn around in the box and ask for Eade's assistance at any time.

Obviously I forgot Matty Lappin, but the forward line is yet to really get going under him, but I'll give him time.

We have a great mix in that box I reckon.:thumbsu:
