I bought a pair of Converse 12 months ago, cos I'm a cool campaigner. Unfortunately about the same time I got plantar fasciitis from footy and then peroneal tendinitis caused by the arch support a podiatrist put me into to. I still have the peroneal tendinitis 12 months later!!

Unfortunately this means I haven't been able to wear my converse, so I've got a rockin' pair of shoes just sitting in my cupboard. I wonder if Freezer wants them.

I too had back issues which was caused from referred legpain. Was fixed by:

- making sure that the shoes I wore either had a good arch support or if flat to put some arch supports in.
- various stretching exercises

While I still get the occasional twinge my back and leg complaints have never been that bad again.

Even the thongs I wear now have arch support.

Plus one daughter was an elite rower. But she hated running. We had her fitted with a correct pair of runners to improve her gait and she went from hating running to being a very good x-country athlete as well. It also improved her rowing as her fitness improved.

Small corrections in your footware can make a huge difference for some people.
Sitting down for long periods & how you sit was underestimated until recently. A mate who catches up with Luke O'Brien regularly, mentioned that the difference with Freezer's hamstrings pre-training & post training is much greater than most. I'm not sure of the unit & how it functions, it somehow can register the condition/strength of your hamstrings. He also said (Is a Pie's supporter & represents Oz in Weightlifting) that it's very much a concern the state of his hammies.

When I was boxing wore training boots nearly every where, flat rubber sole no arches, when I returned to playin footy, not once did I have any hammies issues.:)

But there again, when I ran I was probably as fast as a 90yo using a walking frame & if the ball didn't hit me on the chest, there was know way known of me bending down to pick it up. So definitely no hammy problems. :p

Where did I say or imply that?

Not that you will listen as you know everything, but what I actually said was shoes without arch support can cause SOME people problems and gave examples of this. My apologies that it is difficult for you to realise that people are different and that my post was on this issue and not on Freeman himself.

I listen but as it was in the Freeman thread I thought you may have been suggesting this may be part of the problem. Sorry if you weren't but I stand by my point. If people on here know it can cause issues then surely the doctors, specialists and Freeman also know this and I trusting them that they also know its ok to wear those type of shoes. We have spent 300k this year on a player who most likely wont play a senior game plus probably thousands more on medical so I'm going to trust everyone concerned that they have the shoe part covered as it may be one of the first things they would look at. The type of footy boots he wears, what he wears out etc. I know that Freeman is doing everything possible to play footy, People even think it was part of the reason he left the pies so I don't think he would stuff that up so he can wear his convers runners. Surely we trust of our club and player more than that?

And the funny thing is you say I know everything but I'm not the one knowing anything on this topic apart from trusting player and club. I would have thought the people who know everything are the ones saying this could be the reason for his hammies being no good. I think people confuse knowing everything for actually knowing nothing.

Someone needs to tweet him and ask him about his shoes

We're looking at Converse-gate here people, the darkest day in football history

I just want him on the park. I want a shoe minder for him, don't get me started on his tight jeans. Billy was going nuts on his phone -I was stressing about carpal tunnel syndrome. I'm highly strung.

I know, that was a weird place to see them, they were in Carnegie Grill'd so don't get me started on their diet. It's footy training night and my kids free voucher he won at footy was about to expire so had to let him go. He was in his Saints jumper from training so Freeman said hello to us. I was going to leave them alone.

Can you please mention Ormond FC when you are down there. We need to win 4 free footys. We have got Freeman and Longer on board. That is why they went there. They weren't supposed to wear tight jeans or converse runners though. They were supposed to be an Ormond top.

Bunch of boys are regulars at one of my favourite fish & chipperies, thus far I've resisted the urge to annoy them. Haven't seen Freezer yet but it's only a matter of time, there's 3, 4, 5 at a time

I've been wearing all stars or variations of them as my main casual shoes for the better part of 6 years... I have no issues at all - never done a soft tissue injury.

The foot and ankle is incredibly complex - while it's pretty common that physios/chiros/osteos will recommend you stay away from unsupported footwear it's not always the best solution.

When you've got a team of fitness professionals behind you and a heap of time to train and dedicate toward fixing the problem there are ways that you can help the ankle that aren't just throwing a pair of more supportive shoes on. Perhaps Freemans running style is a little bit off and they want him to fix it up? He's wearing all-stars with a thin sole so that he can be "aware" (ha, couldn't help myself) of his landing pattern with his feet?

Maybe we're all reading too much into it - he was out for a bite to eat where he was in a stable, predictable environment where he would have been off his feet while he sat and ate for most of the time... Are unsupported shoes worn for a short stretch like that really going to make a huge difference?

A few of you guys have mentioned that you "lived in" your all-stars or "wore them everywhere" which is very different to a short trip to the shops!

I told him to put it into the Saints, you guys were running last because everyone knows you don't need the cash. I think you only get 4 Grill'd sherrins for a win a two for runner up anyway. One thing junior clubs aren't starved of is second rate rubber footies.

Yeah, it did cross my mind they might actually want his hamstrings at maximum stretch so a converse with no heel height might actually be remedial after I commented already.

Just want to point out our club medicos are not always right, although I hope they are nowadays. Harking back to Jason Cripps's long term injury. I was listening to the radio one day in the 1990's and he was being interviewed about his injury and the treatment he was receiving for it. After the interview was finished a man rang in saying he was a sports doctor specialising in that type of injury. He said the club does not want to continue with treatment outlined by Crippa, otherwise his in jury would not heal for a year or more. Well we know what happened with Jason Cripps. He missed years of footy.

They are actually proper footys. We won them last year. They do have grilled on the side but are great for training. And we are a senior club. Bugger our juniors. And also we aren't last now as we finally had a win yesterday. Thank god for that.

Bugger the juniors? And this is one of the reasons why a lot of kids aren't playing footy anymore.

It was actually a joke. Our juniors are nearly more important than the seniors and the way the AFL works these days if you are going to have a player good enough to make the AFL they most likely wont play seniors until they retire or are sacked from the AFL. In our area we have no problems with getting kids to play footy. More popular than ever. Unfortunately other parts of Melbourne are so fortunate so no it isn't a reason kids aren't playing footy in Ormond.

Not if you don't follow them. Its like saying they are more important than the Saints because without juniors there is no saints however most on here would rate the Saints much more important than any junior club.

Ok lol

Thinking like that is prob why you have only won one game.
