I don't start many threads.

But he's an absolute gun and should be favourite for the Rising Star Award, he's the most consistent performer of those who've been nominated to date.

Will end up one of the top five players from the 2009 draft without a doubt. Id take him over all bar a few players in that draft, just a freakish talent who's been totally overlooked by those on the other side of the country.

Huge fan of Fyfe. Great hands, fantastic awareness and a good kick. But, although he showed good signs early on, he didn't have a consistent impact on games.

Yesterday (vs Eagles) was maybe his break out game but, let's face it, we sucked ass. How many more times is he going to be able to break 2 tackles and evade another defender to get his kick off? That will never happen against a top8 side.

Not too sure about his competition for Rising Star but I imagine there is someone who has performed at a higher level more consistently.

Comparing statistics between a HFF and Midfielders, is a short sighted argument. The impact Fyfe has as a HFF would be up there as one of the best in the competition. The impact that Scully and Trengove have considering their positions in my opinion is less.

Trengove/Scully get 5 extra handballs a game, that's all. I'm sure they're really great handballs, but when your position is on ball, where you are far more involved in the play, you are bound to get a handfull of extra touches.

A mark or a touch on the wing out in space, or a handball in the pack, in my opinion, isn't as remotely difficult as the things that Fyfe does. Pack marking is one of the hardest and most important skills in the game. In his first season of football, Fyfe is easily the best overhead mark at our club, and he'd probably be up there with best in the competition.

It brings up the old argument of quality vs quantity. Look at a guy like Stephen Hill. He doesn't get much of the ball, but the impact each and every touch has on the game is far more important than your accumulator type player, such as Rhys Palmer.

I don't know what criteria the selection panel use to determine who is the Rising star, but I certainly hope it goes alot further than who got a few extra handballs per match.

As a Fremantle supporter, I think Fyfe is the best young player on our list (including Hill). Either way, it's almost irrelevant. Martin probably had the award locked away a fair while back.

Edit: Hmm, didn't know Martin wasn't eligible. Is he over age?

I'm not looking at the fact they have 5 handballs each a match I'm looking at where they play and the fact they are playing in the midfield where most of the better players play. They are the guys that have to fight for the ball so it can be pumped in the players like Fyfe who are playing on a flank.

Who do you think has the harder job? There are some flankers, particularly in the backline that can accumulate kicks at will.

Martin has received a suspension.

I think a HFF is a hell of alot harder to play than HBF. Most defending these days is about getting numbers behind the ball to outnumber the offensive team, and then cleaning up the scraps. Defenders generally have the numerical advtange in contests, making it a hell of alot easier to win posession. You've then got the junk touches because of zoning. Backmen are allowed to chip the ball around the back half to find to find an outlet: Forwards don't really get the same amount of opportunity to be involved, or have an impact on the game.

If don't know if this makes any sense at all, but here goes: HBF is the new HFF and HFF is the new HBF.

The kid has some ability, because i have him in my dreamteam I watch him more than other players that i dont.
If he played for a vic club and not the dockers, maybe then he may be getting the respect he deserves.

He can take a grab like none of the boys drafted before him.

Just keeps his eye on the ball, times his run at it and wraps his big hands around it.

Freo has finally started to draft well.

I don't see why he didn't play earlier in the year! Still, gonna be a gun. He's an awesome mark for someone his size.

He made his debut in round 5. People were actually surprised he played at all, given his build. His break out game was either against Sydney or North.

It was funny to hear Jakovich remarking how "strong" Fyfe is. Not sure I'd say that, but he does have a lot of hunger for the contest.

Midfielders generally play in the midfield, not just the better players. Fyfe may not the numbers but he is more versatile than the pure midfielders. He does have the potential to play fwd, mid, and flank effectively.

Not saying that I would take Fyfe over Martin (the best of this years draft easily), Scully or Trengove but he is showing an amazing capacity to position, evade and win possession against men. I hope he could evolve into a Hird type player.

I would rate him in the top 3-4 of this years draft.

I really rate him as a player.

He will be one to watch over the next few years.

Another great pick up by the dockers.

Freo has finally started to draft well.

He's been so impressive in that regard, any time a bloke kicks the ball anywhere in his vicinity, I feel sure he'll either mark or else another Freo player will get it. Great talent.

On another note, as for Fyfe winning the Rising Star, I doubt it. He's been tremendous this year but Scully, Hannebery and Rockliff have all been very impressive as well.

Avatar is going alright for a first year player. As noted he has a "good pair of dukes". Although I dont think he will win the rising star award, he is certainly a good find for the Dockers.

I think it is a little bit of a misconception (and I'm talking Fremantle fans) that Fyfe is playing as a HFF. Maybe you could say he is a very high HFF, but he is basically playing as a midfielder. If he goes inside 50, it will be from running from the centre and floating down there, such as that goal he butchered where he actually started his movement from behind the centre circle (probably explains why he missed it, because he had run 100m at the end of a game and was tired)

Fyfe is a gun. I remember people were saying why didn't Freo draft Aaron Black (who went to the kanga's for pick 21). I love his name and the way he plays. Dockers have some gun kids that's for sure

Although it's his marking that (rightly) gets talked up it's his ability to win ball in scrimmages that amazes me. Having grown up playing country footy he's obviously not afraid of a scrap but he's so strong in the hands to wrestle the ball away and get it out.
Really good in traffic.
Smart footballer and a really nice intelligent kid from what I've seen.

Having said all that I would be astonished if someone other than Trengove, Scully or possibly Hanneberry wins the rising star . All quality players.

Martin should be allowed to win it as he's clearly the most influential first / second year player.

I love Fyfe, wanted him before the draft. I haven't seen a huge amount of him this year but he's great to watch.

Nah his breakout game was against Sydney at the SCG earlier in the year. He showed real class that day in the wet against a top 8 side known for playing tough, tight footy.
