Walters looked pretty excited to be returningI’m not gonna bump this every game, but I’ll give the champion a mulligan. Cornesy would have loved it lol, who has written him off or can’t forgive and forget the classic sledge handed to him: “come on then, I’m taking your old bones to the goalsquare”
But he was definitely slow and scratchy last night. He was getting run in his legs traipsing up and down the field and you can see he is an on-field coach - but he needs to be at the coalface for the fourth quarter when the younger players have slowed down it would seem. He truly looks to be suited to the substitute, and is a net positive there on a small sample size. The Dockers need that 6’3 tunnel boring machine with Serong and Brayshaw on the smaller side at the end of games. He also has an aura when he’s injected, everyone’s already tense and pumped at the start of the match. Just may not bode well for the Dockers if there’s a first quarter injury. Nevertheless, Nathan should own the substitute position if he’s the one insisting he’s good for the whole game - no one’s really ever been a specialist (no not B Banfield).
If the Dockers make the finals or even a grand final I reckon he could go kamikaze as a last hurrah and play a stellar game and retire with nothing but good memories and as a first ballot Hall of Famer.
