There are few footballers that I admire more than Nathan Jones.

He is sensational in many facets.

Plays for the jumper.

Gives 110% at all times (unlike a few of my teams players).

If he was in a top 8 team he'd be a multiple All-Australian by now.

Just love the way he goes about it.

3-4 years ago I had him in the "depth/delist" category, thinking he was too similar to Moloney and probably wouldn't improve. SO happy to be proven wrong. Has worked really hard to improve his game - considering he is 25 and has played more than 100 games, it's not often you see this much development, this far into a career. I wish Sylvia would take a leaf from his book.

Incredibly durable too. In the seasons after 2006 he has played 21, 21, 20, 22, 22 and 21 games. At this rate, he will approach 250 games by the end of his career.

He should be our captain.

He should be our captain.

I've thought that since 2011.

Also for the record I think Neeld is a good coach, only have to look at his CV.

I was dumbfounded the Football department traded a first round pick for Dawes though, I know you lost Green and Jurrah at the end of 2012, but I would've thought if you were prepared to traded a first round pick away, it would've been for an experienced mid (24-26) to help out the likes of Jones.

Probably not multiple AA as last year was his only season close to it, but he definitely has improve enormously. His kicking improvement has been Watson-like. They both used to butcher it a bit but now I trust him immensely, on both feet. He gets caught less as well and is a much better handballer. He's also much more difficult to tag out of the game.

Anyone who managed to develop their game in the last half dozen years here pretty much did it themselves. Here's a toast to Jones first and foremost plus the guys like Howe and Grimes who managed to buck the system. :thumbsu:

So true.

Howe has been quite solid so far this year.

I feel grimes does his best stuff in defence and our defensive 6 look more balanced when he's there. He's been good though.

Yeah we need Grimes there because he reads the ball so well.

Love him to bits what a champion. Would be good if other player took a leaf out of his book.

I don't use the word 'hero' very often, but Nathan Jones is the greatest hero in MFC history.

Hero is correct. Reckon Robbie Flower might have a claim to the greatest hero in our history though.

He'll never be an A grade player (imo) but I love his effort. He does his job week in week out and if we had a few more like him in the middle he'd find it a lot easier as he is getting the best tagger each week.

And yes he should have been made captain, neeld should have admitted he was wrong and given him the captaincy at the end of last year.

He's not perfect but pretty decent by our stocks. Regardless, he always puts in and that makes him a prime target and headache for most opposition taggers. Without his gusto I don't want to know where we'd be at.

Well, I kinda know anyway, we'd be ****ed, but you know, it was a figure of speech.

After seeing that post, I've decided I'll put together a tribute video along those lines for Jonesy at the end of this season. He's certainly worthy of it :thumbsu:

Very good point.

I feel some of you are missing the reference.

EDIT: Case in point

He's the new James McDonald. Everything about him screams Junior.

No doubt we'll delist him and let him walk to GWS. **** the MFc.

i'm guessing he wasn't picked as captain for off field probems? or is it cose he skateboards? ...

great playersums it up. he is getting tagged yet still is the best on ground for the dees, has come along way,

I think he is A grade, he's just not superstar status. Easily our best player for effort and ability, along with Clark when Mitch is fit. I've said it before, he's the posterboy for player development.
