CJH,

I really don't know why Richmond is wanting to annually play Collingwod in round 1. As long as you play them twice a year, who cares what round it is? Round 1, is NOT the big drawing round that everyone thinks it is. You will get no more against the Pies in Round 1, than you would get against them in Round 4. So, why go after round 1? I get bored withthe same old math-ups every year in Round 1. Let's mix it up a bit.

The one you should be going after is Anzac eve against Carlton. You can draw on your FULL supporter base for this match, given that it will fall before a public holiday..... and it would be against your most traditional rival.

Trust me..... there is nothing special about Round 1 from a crowd drawing point of view. Rounds 3, 4 and 5 are just as big. You got 79,000 against the Pies in Round 4 this year. You wouldn't have got any more if it was in Round 1. If I were you, I'd want to take advantage of the crowd drawing capabilities that Anzac eve could bring. You got 62,000 against North on Anzac eve in 1995, and you haven't been able to get that against them since.

Collingwood should charge appearance fees! If the lesser clubs (B!tchmond, Norf, Dorks, Melbourne et al) want to play The Club twice per year, Collingwood should get a percentage of the away gate! 20% souds like a good figure.

I was referring to the Leaches that are Melbourne, Bulldogs, Norf etc as well as Richmond, who continually try and attach themselves to our greatness in the vain attempt to perhaps get close to being the greatest club in the competition and inevitably fail.

Collingscum are the biggest spongers going round. You weak pissants have

1 - Recived priority draft picks at the expense of successful Victorian clubs.

2- Sponged ready made players from other clubs in the preseason draft ie OBree, Freeborn, etc. Clubs who recieved no compensation.

3 - Recieved millions from the AFL ie other Victorian clubs to move from your cesspot at Victoria Park to the MCG.

4 - Have guaranteed financial advantage over other Victorian clubs by getting return matches against Carlton, Essendon and Richmond every year whilst other Victorian clubs have to play Freo and Port out at Optus.

5 - Sponge of the Anzac tradition and legacy under the pretence of commerating the day but in reality it as a commercial venture to make money using those people who have died for this country. Disgraceful scum.

As for your perceived greatness, no one apart from you and spongy mates gives a damn whether you won 11 premierships before 1936 in a tinpot suburban competition that was no more important or greater than the VFA, the SANFL or the WAFL.

Firstly, the more I think about the Anzac Eve / Carlton eve thing, the more I think you are right!

Assumming that Anzac Day / Essendon / Collingwood are out of the question, I cannot come up with a better option.

The reason why the Anzac Day match has been so successful is that Essendon / Collingwood have done a really good job on the marketing angle of it.

This is why I thing a Round 1 Season Opener is important is that it has an inherent marketing hook to it. As big as this Saturday's game will be it has no explicit marketing angle to it other than 2 big sides in good form. We also have only 6 days to also effectively market it - no point doing so until after Essendon had completed their previous match.

But a season opener you can spend weeks building it up.

Just because a season opener hasn't been a big drawing round doesn't mean that it couldn't.

So which one will it be? Anzac Eve or a Season Opener? If I was on the Richmond board I would be pushing for both! :D

Hahaha Where are the Woodenspooner whingers now? No response.

PS Choppy: You left out the fact they've only won 3 flags in 64 soon to be 65 years.

Once again Dan25 (so called stats guru), you have got it wrong.

Round 22 Richmond Vs Kangaroos, crowd that day was over 62,000.

You can't call yourself a stats guru if you continually get things wrong son!

David, there should have been 80,000 there yesterday except the Carlton supporters showed as much heart as their senior footballers' on-field performance, when it came to getting to the game (ie. NONE).

I thought there was no noticeable difference in numbers between Carlton and Collingwood. Seeing as though it was a Collingwood home game, maybe you should blame your own supporters.

Well if I was a new comer to AFL. And I had a choice of who I would go and watch. I would have to say COLLINGWOOD only because they are usually the underdogs/battlers. Which in normal life I am so very much a battler so of course they get my support.

Second would have to be the DEES...

JUST I JUST LOVE MY FOOTY TOTALLY...... :)

Funny that, particularly given the comments in here regarding the Coll/Rich game. I work with a few tigers supporters who went & they said the same thing. Makes Eddie's comment on monday look even dumber than usual.

I am fully aware of the crowd you are talkign about. I might be wrong, but if my memory serves me correctly, it was 61,000, while the Anzac eve clash in 1995 got 62,000. Check it if you like. Both were similar anyway. if my memory serves me correctly, the Anzac eve match in 1995 was smaller. I am rarely wrong CK Tiger.

That's irrelevant anyway, because the only reason they attracted such a big crowd in round 22 1996 was because Richmond were playing for a spot in the 8, and North were playing for 2nd spot, and the double chance (which they got)
