I'd say 2K are worse.

Ive got FIFA, Madden and NHL and have never been forced to stay online, never been tied to servers and never had to use XP/VC to effectively play my season mode.

If 2K kept VC for that rubbish myteam/ultimate team rubbish, then ok. It's an obvious cash cow. But it has bled over into modes that have been the home of simulation players.

It still astounds me I had to use VC to change my lineup. That scares the crap out of me, as a 10 year 2K fan and 18 year NBA video game devotee.
 
Was a big online association player. Had leagues running with mates over multiple seasons, 2k11 was brilliant, made new friends had our own forum and everything. Then every new versiion oa got worse and worse to the point were 2k13 oa was the worst bit of rubbish i have ever played.
They nearly saved it for me when they introduced crews. Now there was great fun , but agakn, they ruijed that for us. Said fk it, not buying 2k14 not getting my money, but its now free on ps plus so i caved and got it.

Of course, the 2K servers are historically crap. The worst. They barely work for online play, let alone the constant saving, uploading and downloading of previously offline, single player modes.

When everyone picked up their copy over christmas/ new year the servers melted. The game was unplayable for 2 weeks. People couldnt play anything other than quick games.

Single player shouldnt need the net. I play MyGM on ps4 but can only play at my missus house as i dont have the net at mine. You can start a new one without using the net but i put so much time into this one i dont wanna start again.
Ive always played Association the most love that side more. Ive never finished 1 season in mycareer get too bored and i prefer having realistic game sliders for a more realistic gameplay and stats.
My big gripe is when they changed the amount of games to a lock at 82 instead of being able to change it to 30. I always played 12min qtrs now im at 6.
And yes VC should be for the myteam card crap instead of having to use the app everyday to get free vc so i can manage my franchise properly!!!!
 
I only play MyPlayer mode in 2K14 so not sure if this problem in other modes - but there needs to be a button where, if you press it, play instantly resumes. Over the course of a match there must be 5 minutes worth of needless TV style coverage - Stats over the last month, standings, upcoming games - that either can't be skipped or there's a few seconds waiting before it lets you. Also with time outs, half time break. Not to mention the full screen splash ads for KIA SLAMCAM and PRESENTED BY SPRINT, THE SPRINT HALFTIME REPORT. PRESENTED BY SPRINT. Preferably not make it the pass button, don't know how many 'bad call for pass' negs I get for mashing that button trying to get play to resume.

Also need skippable cutscenes. And less of them. Don't really need the same old repeated GM meetings. Thought they were really well done but gee you can only see them so many times.

General clean up is expected re: silly bugs like occasionally not getting subbed off, incorrectly labelled in game challenges, unintuitive menus (no guarantee on being able to see metric stats for instance. not sure how this stuff regresses from previous games, and indeed the SAME game on PS4), not being able to see social media challenges during the game etc.

That reminds me in the PS3 version they decided to show the conference ladder on the screen blocking the view of my player when I was trying to pass. Not sure if that's an issue with the next gen versions or not. Certainly the PS3 version also has an issue with passing in general. You'd think the default pass would be to a guy nearby but most of the time it defaults to you throwing the ball from one end to the other and turning it over. I hope the next gen version doesn't suffer from that.
 
Non icon passing is still terrible even in next gen. It's not even just that, so sick of seeing the court well and making smart passes only to have the game make what should be a quick overhead pass into a bounce pass into two guys for a turnover or vice versa. It's the things like that that infuriate me, same with team mates not boxing out.
 
Bugger... Haven't played a 2k game since 11 and was getting keen on jumping back on the bandwagon after watching the NBA finals, looks like I'll hang out for the reviews instead. The whole VC thing is extremely disappointing

I completely agree. 82 games is far too much for me, I ended up simming in my only season on 2k14 and I hate simming when I'm playing a career mode. You also couldn't play co-op either which is completely ridiculous. According to a page on Facebook it was available on release but then taken out for some reason.

Badly. VC required for every upgrade and you earn **** all VC even when your team does insanely good during the season.

Played a few matches of the PS4 version at a friends house. Good graphics, decent gameplay, such a shame that VC has ruined Association/MyGM, which was one of my favourite modes in previous games.

My player has been playing for free for the last 2 seasons... My guy doesn't even have a contract for **** sake.

I'll be outed as a fairweather sports videogamer but i rarely play full length realistic quarters in sports games. I've done it once or twice in each sport title (fifa, nba2k, madden, afl live 2004, bigant's afl live etc) but i've never done a full season's worth of games at the same length of time due to how time consuming it is.

In Madden i think 2-3 minute quarters is better than 5+. Even a 2-3 minute quarter game can make Madden games last for 20+ minutes per game. A full length one i'd be playing for hours just to complete ONE game in a season.

Prior to NBA 2K, my basketball addiction was Total NBA '97 on the Playstation, played it for many years.... even when it was outdated i thought it was still awesome (the drawback was that the statistics would not carry over after 2 seasons, you'd only get to see the previous season's averages during games rather than overall career average etc). I played every game in the season, however i operated on "nba jam" style quarter length - every game was 3 minutes per quarter. The game itself was stellar and a good simulation basketball title.

I was huge on association/season mode in NBA 2K, i tried Myplayer in 2K10 and wasn't impressed. However i became addicted to it in 2K11, 2K12 i was in my element and even boosted the minutes played in each quarter. Since then Association was either something to do in the downtime (even then it would be fantasy draft rosters instead of realistic teams season) and shortened to lessen the burden. I opted to play every My Player game.

I don't think that makes you "fair-weather" at all. In fact, sports video games are not made to be played with realistic quarters. The gameplay is made deliberately unrealistic, such that you get realistic scores despite only playing for a quarter of the amount of time. That's why 7 minute halves in FIFA, 5 minute quarters in NBA (or something like that) gives you realistic scores.

If you play for the full length, not only will you completely lose your life, but you will get ridiculously high scores.

I adjust sliders to get realistic scores. I was playing 12 min quarters, played all 82 games plus playoffs, got some really nice stats.

Problem was it took me 4 and a half months to finish 1 season.
