Who would be interested in a fun NBA punting comp. I ran a similar thing for the AFL season on the Punting board. Each week, each tipster gets $50 to spend and we keep a running total.

Good work boys. Well as the season starts tomorrow, people can start registering their tips now i suppose. We can make a rule that tips are open from Wednesday to Wednesday. So you have a week to spend your $50.

How do we work out the odds? ie from what website?

I am taking $25 on Portland +12.5 and $25 on Utah +3.5

Yeh we need a website to quote odds from.
And also, can we only spend the allocated $50 each week or can we use our winnings too?

Should this thread be stickied or will we do a weekly thread or something?

Agreed. Make sure to quote the odds too, when you post your bets.

As for winnings, I'd rather just keep it to the original $50, makes it much easier to keep track.

What about a single bet limit of like $10, so we spread it out a bit and have to make a few bets rather than just pounding the most obvious one.

Yeh I think that's a good idea, only being able to spend $50 per week no matter how much you're up in your bank.
And the $10 limit I like too.

I say someone set's up a sort of base thread with:
a) Everyone's balance
b) Rules and regulations (what site to use, how to post your bets, how much you can bet etc.)

Then we do weekly threads where we put in our actual bets for that week.

I'll let pro_punter set up the actual thread, since he got this rolling, but how about this as base rules:
- No single bet over $10
- Sportingbet is used as the default sportsbook.
- No editing posts that contain your bets; once you've posted a bet, it's locked in, at whatever the current odds are.
- No season-long bets; too hard to keep track of.

Anything else that I've missed?

Sounds good to me.

How about adding
- Tipsters are allocated $50 to bet each week. They must use all of and only this $50 within the week.

eg. If you bet $10 on LA to beat Phoenix (:D) @ $3.50 then you only have $40 left to bet with for that week - regardless of whether the bet wins (in which case $35.00 goes into your bank) or loses.

Also should we allow player bets and other exotics or only lines, straight up and overs/unders?

Sounds good to me.

Good idea. Seeing there are so many games it would get hard to track. It all looks pretty good to me.

On this, should we say any money that's not wagered is simply lost? I.e. if someone only bets $20 in a week for some reason, they can only bank profits from that $20, and not the other unwagered $30.

As for bets, I'd be happy for any bets that sportingbet offered that resolve themselves within that week. I.e. Kobe 40+ against Cleveland is ok, but Kobe avg. 35+ for January is not ok, for example.
Also, multis should be fine too, as long as they only include bets that pay within that week.
