Greetings all, i'm going to be lucky enough to be in New York for the start of the NBA season, and will get to tick off a bucket list item by seeing an NBA game live for the first time.

My question to the good folk on here who may have been to a a game live, what is the best way to buy tickets, pre purchase before i leave Australia, or walk up on the day, bearing in mind it will be single ticket only, as my wife has zero interest in basketball. The games i will be looking to go to are as per below.

Wed 25th Oct- Brooklyn Nets v Cleveland at Barclays Centre- i know Nets are crap, but seeing LeBron Live is too good to pass up.
Mon 30th Oct- New York v Denver at MSG

And the holy grail for me Nov 6 Orlando Magic v BOSTON CELTICS, would have preferred to see them at Boston Garden, but this is the next best thing.

All advice will be much appreciated.

I haven't used it but you could try seatgeek. Often season holders will list their tickets if they cannot attend.

Cavs as anywhere with LeBron probably won't be cheap still but should be able to get OK prices for NYK v Nuggets. My brother got second row tickets cheap for a Knicks game but it was later in the season.

In New York for a week at Xmas time. There are only 2 games that we could possibly go to after looking at the schedule, which are Knicks v Philly on Christmas or Nets v Orlando on Jan 1.

I feel like the Christmas game would be both massively overpriced and a sell out, so would like to hear any advice if people have been to these games, like when and where to buy tickets, is it worth it, etc.

I'm just gonna assume Brooklyn v Orlando tickets could be purchased at the arena. That may be the cheaper and easier option.

Will also be in NY at that time and looking to attend Brooklyn vs Cavs so might see you there! My mates who have attended games have told me to use Stubhub, not sure what other sites are like though..

You get lucky being a Nuggets fans as well if you are still in NY 30TH :thumbsu:

I am shattered, I leave on the 29th haha :(

Bummer, i was stoked when the fixture came out, more so when i realised i can live a life long dream and see the Celtics live, all be it in Orlando. It still ticks off a bucket list item.

Use stub hub don't buy off official site u will get reamed price wise I've heard

Any idea when the best time to buy them is? Don't think Cavs vs Brooklyn will sell out, so do you lock in your seats now for $101 (on Stubhub) or will they get cheaper (say on Gameday) when people are still trying to sell and get desperate?

Will get cheaper by game for sure mate

Would wait 2 weeks before locking in

Would be baffled if that sold out anyways

At least it'll be cheaper for a great seat, Orlando's arena is good, you'll get Stuff's antics to go with it and i'm guessing with Orlando's transient population you'll have a very Celtic atmosphere still.

For me, I'm visiting the West Coast + New Orleans and my visit aligns with Orlando @ GSW, which is great because being Orlando it's still going cost an arm, but not a leg, for a decent seat, I get to see my team again (regardless that we'll get hosed) and I get to see the Warriors. Winning all round.

I searched using Seat Geek when I was over a couple of years ago and then purchased through other sites from there. I'll do the same again.

I used Stub Hub exclusively when I lived in the States, but would check out Seat Geek too if I was heading over again.

I'm heading over in January February so hopefully line up a couple of games in Portland and possibly Portland @ lakers and Portland @ boston.

I'll keep Seat Geek in mind. Plus stubhub. Cheers guys

I was there last season.

Buying closer to it is the cheaper way to go unless a trade happens or both teams are doing better than expected, then you will be screwed.

I got tickets for Warriors vs Clippers in LA and got them before the season started. Cost me $180 US for two seats in the top level. Worth every penny but Paul was out injured and on the night could have got the same seats for $80 US each. To me I would rather have them and if they were the top 2 in the conference my $180 would have looked cheap.

Alternatively I got tickets to a Nets vs Grizzlies game in Brooklyn two days before the game, cost me $30 each for seats in a corporate box.

Just judge who you are seeing, who they are playing, what time of the year and you should be right. Stub Hub the way to go though for mine.

Yep, I'm looking at Toronto @ Chicago in January, as well as a game in New York/Brooklyn at some stage.

Cheers have already purchased Celtic v Orlando tickets via Stub Hub, was happy with the price, and didn't want to wait to get those. Will walk up for the other two when in New York.

Added Lakers@Clippers to Orlando@Warriors for my trip next month.

Got my Lakers@Clippers seats but waiting for later to get the Warriors tickets because ticket prices really can't get any worse and being vs Orlando I reckon plenty will sell their tickets late.

Going to be in the states around Easter next year, looking to buy a couple of tickets for the the Warriors @ OKC game. Went and had a look at ticketek it had a note that only residents from the surrounding areas were eligible to buy tickets but apparently I could buy resale tickets? Anyone care to give me a quick run down of how buying NBA tickets work for a travelling aussie? (sorry I didn't read to far into this thread if the answer has already been posted)

Back from holiday, i was lucky enough. to catch 3 games in my time over there.

My observations

Game 1 Brooklyn v Cavs - Barclays Centre

Ticket cost walk up 74 usd, no real difference on stub hub. Was in the bleachers five rows from the back, not the best stadium to watch a game at from the back. The other thing that threw me was a large soda and popcorn set me back 17 bucks. Would only ever go back and watch there if the Celtics were playing.
Game lacked atmosphere it was like the Nets fans expected to lose, i was a bit tired from flights, but due to lack of atmosphere i actually found my self dozing off, they only really got vocal in the last when they sensed a win,. Two seats empty near me allowed for a bit of extra room, until the two seat holders turned up with 3 mins to go in the 3rd, wtf.
Le bron tries hard to get his team mates involved, passed when he could have scored. He pretty much can do what he wants out there, if wants to score he does.

Game 2 Knicks v Nuggets MSG

Walk up ticket 84 bucks behind the basket about row 30, seats were fantastic, view was great of the whole court. Whilst i had already eaten dinner before arriving, i noticed the food and beverage prices were much more reasonable than at Barclays.
The crowd was into the game from the first tip off.
Porzingas is going to be a star, although if he wants to make a name for himself if they ever get to the play offs, he may need to get a bit more physical, seems a bit soft to me, and i wonder if he could handle the heat in a play off game. In saying that unless the Knicks can add another decent player, the playoffs are a long way away for this team. They allowed the nuggets back in the game, and the Nuggets could end up being a lottery team.
In a heart beat i would go back to watch a game at the Garden.

Game 3 Magic v Celtics at Amway

I got to fulfill a life long dream and watch the Celtics live, even better i got to watch them win. I purchased my seats from stub hub before i left OZ for 65 usd and was glad i did, as the seats were half way back in the 2nd tier, up the back was cheaper, but it was a long way up there. The venue itself was nice and looked pretty new, food and beverage was reasonably priced. The drink we got was a re fill one for 8 bucks in a souveneir cup. My wife who is not a basketball fan enjoyed watching Stuffs antics as the game was on.

Once again i felt the game lacked any real atmosphere.

Was happy with the win, from my perspective the Celtics are playing as a team, each player steps up when needed. Kyrie's ball handling skills live are amazing, and Brown and Tatum should be good long term players, the players seem to know their roles.

The one thing i found in all games are the players are terribly structured, and the coach might as well come out and run the point as they call every play down the court rather than letting the guard take control and letting the players run with it, so many athletic players out there just standing around, i guess that's why i enjoy watching the Warriors so much, they seem to play without a lot more freedom.

I enjoyed all the games, but for obvious reasons watching the Celtics was a highlight, i hope when i'm back in the states in 2 years time i get to see them again.

Always check the club website too. I went to a Nuggets Phoenix game, 2 tickets, 2 shirts and a beer each for under 100. Was a guys nigth out, seats were about 12 rows back, behind the goals. was an awesome night
