Shocked by some of those results. I know KG is a great player, but when you compare his salary to those of Kidd and Duncan, it's clear he's getting a fair bit over the odds. Amazing that Kidd and Duncan together don't make as much as KG.

Would love to have the same agent as Mighty Mouse and Vin Baker.

KG was lucky to get his contract before they introduced a maximum amount of money you could bet in a contract where as TD & Kidd didn't have that luxury.

Geez Orlando would want Hill back playing next year.

I'm suprised Vince Carter didn't make the list.

Carter is making just over $11m this year. Has 3 years left on his 6 year - $80m deal.

One thing i noticed today was that Eric Montross is still getting paid for his 11 year contract. :p

I can understand how many of you pointed a few other that are not earning their money but boy is this bloke getting overpaid or what. That much money for a very inconsistent scorer who is nowhere near top 20 players in the league.

Who offered him this contract?????? Chicago??????

KG though is worth it. MVP!

When compared to what his peers get, he most certainly isn't worth it.

Think about it, on KG's money, a team could sign Duncan and Kidd and still have $2.5M to spare.

If that isn't an indication that he's grossly overpaid, i don't know what is.

KG is overpaid, as is Shaq comparitively speaking, but as someone else said they were both lucky in the timing of their contract.

The one I am most shocked about on here is Penny Hardaway, my God he is unbelievably overpaid. Im pretty sure Orlando didnt sign him on that contract either (Ie. before all the injuries)

As someone pointed out above, KG got his money before the whole maximum contract rule came into play. Same with Shaq, Kobe etc. infact, everyone getting over like 13,500,000 or whatever the max is. And it is my understanding that said players are able to continue extending the length (and salary) of their initial contracts...

I understand that, but it doesn't change the fact that he is grossly overpaid.

Yeah, but you compared his salary to Kidd and Duncan. In perfect market, all 3 players would have similar payments one would think. Not KG's fault, just hard luck for the other two...

To clarify, I guess you would say that Duncan and Kidd are underpaid. Hypothetically, in a cap situation where teams had 50 million to spend and there was no max contracts, I think you'd see the top 5-10 players getting 25-35 million.

Of course i compared him to his peers, how else do you judge a players salary?

He is overpaid.

Everyone is overpaid compared to Duncan. Kidd despite being an out and out gun has not won a championship yet, supporting cast sufficient or not. I'm not convinced Shaq is worth quite the same as Duncan comparing apples (somewhat) with apples.

I don't care who it is but fair dinkum US$28M a year for anybody is a hell of a lot of money.

KG is a fantastic player but no one and I mean no one is worth that much.

Yes they are....today's players arent good enough but are you saying you wouldnt pay that money to a 25 year old Michael Jordan? Or a 25 year old Bird, Magic, Thomas?

Stiffy and others, the reason he gets that amount of money is because he is entitled to it... the salary cap is determined by as a proportion of the revenue generated by the league, the players bring in the cash so they do deserve the greater share of it. Surely you'd rather see it go to them than David Stern. I know everyone likes to play the whole "but we can do without professional athletes line", but we don't have to buy the merchandise, subscribe to cable etc.

Michael Jordan was getting 36 million in his peak, and adjusting for inflation that's a whole stack more than what KG and others are getting.

I don't necessarily agree with any of this, but that's what the slick lawyers get the Players Association. There's also a sentiment that you have to allow high schoolers to join the league, otherwise you are depriving them of a potential income (who cares about quality of bball, as long as a brotha gets his checks)... but that's a whole other matter altogether.

And just so everyone knows I meant to say underpaid on that last post on the first page... it makes sense now.

As good as KG is he is not in the ball park of Jordan, Bird or Magic. we are talking about arguably the best 3 players to ever play the game. KG has a long way to go before he gets even close to the level of those 3.

Only player that might be worth that much money is Duncan. In fact there is no one in the league who is worth US$28 M a season. If someone is getting that much $$$$ they sure as hell better have no peer in the league. Can you honestly say that KG is $15M better player than Duncan??????

I don't think so.

Go over the thread again. Since the lockout, the league rules provide that no one can receive a contract more than 30% of the cap (I believe that is the approximate figure). However, those who had contracts before the lockout are allowed to continue extending them at the values that they had, when there was no 30% ceiling on salary.

Think of everyone at $13,500,000 and above as at 100% of salary allowed, or at a maximum level of contract. Or, everyone at 13,500,000 or above is seen at equal value to their respective clubs. Minnesota is just allowed to pay KG more due to the lockout. If Tim Duncan and Jason Kidd were allowed 20 million+ contracts under the rules, you can bet they'd ask for them, and probably would be given them.

I am aware of the rule changes and I am aware that KG signed his deal just before the rules come in. He is a good player BUT compared to some of his peers he is grossly overpaid.

As P&P said you could have Kidd and Duncan for KG's salary. I am aware of the rule changes but doesn't change the fact that he is grossly overpaid.;)
