Review Neagle

You're right, he shouldn't have been making him play a role he clearly wasn't capable of. ie, AFL football. Gets pretty hard when he's still the captain tho.

I'm still amazed that people think Lloyd (let alone Lucas) had mileage left. Obsession with the name, not the performance. His legs were knackered, he couldn't run.

but, but, isn't he coming out of retirement???112

:o

I wrote that if they were fit, they could have been handy.

They weren't so I have moved on, the argument is to do with Neagle not with Lloyd and Lucas.

I said they retired two players for him and if you read what I said I did admit that I wanted them moved on.

Do you like just to argue with people without giving reasons why we should keep Neagle???
If Monfries was 5 inches taller he could have been full forward.... point of the hypothetical is ???

I bring up what I see as huge flaws in your logic & posts. You can't actually comprehend my point, but I don't think I can put it much more clearly. You're the one who brought Lloyd/Lucas into it.

I'll go through it 1 more time:
Lloyd and Lucas weren't retired for anyone, they retired because they were done.
I don't think Neagle demands a spot or should demand a spot, but I don't think he's quite at the point we should sever his contract. I'd keep him on for another pre-season.

So Matthew Lloyd retired on his own terms??

Give me a break, if you think that Lloyd was not told that Neagle was a preferred option and would be getting a game in preference over Lloyd then you my friend are wrong.

Lloyd wanted to continue and whether or not it was said to him he or not he wasn't in the teams plans. That then means Neagle was the first option!!!

Can you see that point of view???

I can see it. I just think it's wrong and if you think about the situation, it doesn't add up.

Lloyd was offered a contract to continue playing half forward and clear out the 50. Agreed?
We then go out and grab a ff in trade week. Agreed?
We play said ff whenever he was fit. Agreed? Odd way to treat a "preferred option", playing them 2nd/3rd in line.
Neagle got dropped after 1 week. Agreed?

Hence.
Lloyd wasn't retired for Neagle. For Willo, possibly.

Neagle's issue is the same issue we have with the back line. The backline look crap coz the midfield wasn't doing it's job re pressure. The entries into the forward line were not to the advantage of the forwards therefore we weren't kicking enough goals or giving the forwards enough opportunities hence our leading goal kicker was Monfires with 24.
Better deliver into the forward 50 should see all our forwards with more opportunities and, unless they have been to the Travis Cloke school of kicking, more goals.

Lloyd was offered a contract to continue playing half forward and clear out the 50. Agreed? Wouldn't have been able to do it, exposed by better Half back flankers. Agreed
We then go out and grab a ff in trade week. Agreed? Yes we did as a back up option.

Neagle got dropped after 1 week. Agreed? As above.

Hence.

You make some good points but the similarities in what the two players were to do or can offer the team are similar. Both are not prime movers but both still demand some attention from opposition talls, but both could not play in same side this (last) year.

I still feel that Neagle was preferred as a forward thinking option within the club and what we wanted him to do in that role. I don't think he would have been given that oppurtunity if Lloyd was there.

In the end Neagle couldn't do the role required so he was dropped.

We both agree to disagree!!!

I ask you this, would you sever a players contract for one year (money not an issue for us) who will not be required in the next few years if the players that you have on a list can fufill the requirements of the position that this certain player we are talking about is vying for??

Lloyd has said many times that he privately decided about half way through 2009 that he'd physically and mentally had enough of training and playing, and was never going to play 2010 regardless of what position he was required to play.

Even he says he staggered that so many in the footy world have ignored his version of how he came to the decision and just blame knights for not guaranteeing him ff......

....he has stated unequivically, that even if knights offered him ff guaranteed each week, he simply couldn't imagine going through a pre season followed by another season of afl footy.

If you thought you were a good chance to pick someone better up, sure.

Don't think they wouldn't bother cutting Neagle for a crack at a 4th rd pick (#74??). Maybe if McKinley is delisted.

Agree with both posts.

Keeping the faith. As has been said, if anyone can get him to 'click', it's James Hird... And Mark Thompson... And Simon Goodwin... And Alan Richardson.... and Sean Wellman.... And Dean Laidley... And on occasion, Matthew Lloyd.

The backline was given the luxury of having Fletch in the back line to guide and teach them - what a shame that Lloydy was 'hurried' out the door and not given the same luxury in the forward line.
What a difference that would that have made to Neagle???

I like Neagle and he does have potential (theres that dirty word) but hes pretty one dimensional IMO and can only play FF or CHF. With Carlisle & Gumby ahead of him I reckon for that CHF/FF role and with plenty of other options like Ryder, M.Williams & Hardingham he might be on borrowed time. Dont think sir James regards his work ethic very highly either which wont help his cause...
